Official Microsoft driver for XBOX 360 Controllers. Just install and you're good to go.
Friendly reminder, This works for wired controllers and wireless but
Wireless controllers cannot be connected except with a receiving device of some sort. A charging cord will not work, as it carries a current, not data.
Your best bet is to stick with a standard wired controller. Any program that has the option to select an input device (like the "N-Rage" plugin for N64 emulators) will have the gamepad up for selection. Any game that is XBOX 360 controller ready (most newer games from bigger companies, ie. Bully Scholarship Edition, GTA4, TESV: Skyrim, etc.) will automatically detect the controller and either switch to it whilst connected or enable the setting selection.
