PS1/2 Do modern burners/CD's make lower quality PS1 backups?

I burned a Verbatim DataLifePlus/AZO disc at 4x. The 8x was not possible, the selectable speeds with the Plextor was only 1x, 4x, 12x and 20x. The intro FMV of Driver stutters just like the CMC burned at 4x :( Maybe it's a little bit better but not significant. And the disc has a verification...

PS1/2 Do modern burners/CD's make lower quality PS1 backups?

Verbatim DataLifePlus can be ordered new. But are those not AZO discs with a blue surface? I have a couple of them left, but those are more difficult to read on the PS1. Even burned with a good burner they stutter more then most cheap brands. The ATIP from those are the same as the DataLifePlus...

PS1/2 Do modern burners/CD's make lower quality PS1 backups?

The intro FMV from Driver has a higher bitrate that the ones later in the game, I suppose. Only the intro is difficult to burn stutter-free and the picture quality is really high for a PS1 FMV. The Plextor can burn at 1x to those CMC media and the stuttering is greatly reduced although not as...

PS1/2 Do modern burners/CD's make lower quality PS1 backups?

The intro FMV seems to be on the outside of the disc (I have the PAL version, maybe it's different?). If I turn the power off when the FMV is playing, the laser pickup is at this point: Maybe the outside of cheap discs have more wobbling? 1717964099 I got a old Plextor PX-2410A CD-only burner...

PS1/2 Do modern burners/CD's make lower quality PS1 backups?

It seems like the FMV on the game "Driver" is more difficult to burn stutter-free (on cheap media) for the SCPH-5552. Maybe it's a higher bitrate or it's the location on the disc. Even with the ND-3550A and CMC CD-R it stutters slightly. But with the Pioneer DVR-MCC it makes a good one from the...

PS1/2 Do modern burners/CD's make lower quality PS1 backups?

Yesterday I was in a video game museum in Germany and it had a Sega Saturn with a spindle of burned CD-R games which you could play with B-) The burned CD-R's where cheap Medion CD's and they played fine including the FMV's (I played Road Rash). Is the CD drive from a Sega Saturn better then a...

PS1/2 Do modern burners/CD's make lower quality PS1 backups?

Burned discs that not always boot, I have a couple of newer burners that can make them too :( For me the NEC ND-3550A works the best, but I use it with cheap media. You probably have more choice because you're using good media. Multiple here says the Plextor PX-708A is the best one. However...

    Permanently disable Windows 10 updates?

I didn't know the Windows Firewall can block domains (I use Linux as daily), I'll take a look :) Maybe even the hosts-file can be used for this? I found this domain list for Windows Update. I hope it's enough...

PS1/2 Do modern burners/CD's make lower quality PS1 backups?

Some time ago I got two burners from a thrift store (they are rare, most stores just throw away computer parts), they let me toke them for €1,- each because nobody bought them for a long time. It was a Pioneer DVR-MCC and a Acer CDRW 6x4x32. The Acer was unfortunately dead, the laser pickup...

    How tf do I mod a PS2?

You can install a modchip or use a softmod (FMCB, works on most models). If you're looking for a modchip I think the Modbo chips are the only ones still easily available nowadays. You'll of course need a soldering station to install it: https://quade.co/ps2-modchip-guide/modbo/ With FMCB you...

    Permanently disable Windows 10 updates?

How can I disable Windows 10 updates completely? I have a old PC (Phenom X3 with the infamous ASRock AM2NF3-VSTA board and nVidia 7800GT so it can't even install graphics drivers) which I only use for CD/DVD burning using P-ATA drives. So I don't want it to update, it will make it slow and it's...

Things you recently bought or got

Bought a cheap hot air soldering station (never used one before, so to learn how to use one): And some cans of valve lubrication for the car (they are rusty because they are second-hand but still unopened):

Hacking Emulation Soooo, my files cant be read.

I didn't said anything like that :O :( In short I was only suggesting to update the softmod because it's maybe too old to work with FAT32 otherwise. And if that doesn't help it probably is easier to format and start fresh with the hard drive. Because it was previously formatted in WBFS...

Hacking Emulation Soooo, my files cant be read.

I was thinking about another thing... maybe the old softmod just cannot use FAT32 for loading? There's a guide to use ModMii to update those on a easy way. I didn't used it myself because it's only for Windows, but it's worth a try...
