After some time without using my Nintendo DSi, I wanted to play on it again but I just noticed that there are those weird spots in the screen. Idk if they are inside the screen or it's some kind of damage outside it but they are only noticeable if you point a strong light to the screen or rotating the console at different angles. Wanted to ask if someone knows the reason of those, because if I turn on the console there is nothing weird with the projected image (like dead pixels or areas that aren't being displayed) and it's just noticeable with the screen turned off, or turned on if I point a very strong light on it (like a flashlight). I don't know if it's something (that) bad but I don't want to use it if that makes the problem worse until I find a solution

I'm assuming you have wiped the screen with a cloth just to be sure the marks are not on the outside?

The front screen lens on the DS Lite and DSi is extremely close to the screen itself, only the adhesive pad separates them so they can sometimes become marked inside just by pressing the lens to hard when cleaning the console etc.

In the photo, it looks like you have a protector case fitted, sometimes putting them on can slightly warp the top half of the console which can make the lens touch the screen and cause marks.

You should be OK to carry on using the console.

Removing the lens and wiping it, then wiping the screen, refitting the lens and putting it back together should sort the problem but if it isn't affecting your gameplay I wouldn't bother as it's easy to get dust in there.

I only looked into this once, but on the DSi I had, the marks were imprinted on the inside of the lens. I'll need to look at it again since I didn't even think about the lens making physical contact with the LCD to create that mark.

If it's inside, it could be a fungus.
Long hyphae are often seen, but there are many different types.
If you look closely and don't see mycelium, it's probably not fungus.

That is very interesting. When I can get my hands on that console again, I'll have to run it under a microscope for pure academic curiosity.

It could be nice if you could post better pics. Use bright light and focus your camera, this in order to see better those marks.

At first glance looks like scratches. It also looks as if you used a solvent to "clean" your screen. Some solvents reacts with plastic melting it in the process.
It also looks like UV light damage, that I've seen in DMG GAMEBOY and GBC screens.

Also, it seems like water damage or trapped moisture.

Did these appeared overnight? Usually this kind of damage takes time to develop and you should've noticed it before.

If it means anything to you, these marks were something I noticed on a couple of DSi I had, but I didn't have a clear answer to what it was.

Not to get sidetracked, but I didn't know the sunburn was the cause of those giant spots on those older Gameboys. The more you know.

I don't see the buzz about a square screen personally. I think there will be a review on the site within a few weeks though if you are interested.

I've put down the money on the Odin 2 Mini since I just love that Vita form factor. Loved the power of the Odin 2 but the size always put me off, this one seems exactly what I've been wanting.

I don't care about the square screen it's just nice to hold something you don't have to stretch your arms a foots length

All these things expecting to be super huge is overrated just run a type c cable to your TV if you want a big display or in my case screen mirror it

On the go tho I meant, I use my 10" tablet and a Bluetooth controller for retro gaming while sitting on my porch or on long car rides sometimes. Easier on my eyes than the Switch screen.

My point is we already have enough shit with big displays having something pocketable with up to ps2 would be fine on the go
