What OS are you thinking? Maybe consider using a software like VirtualBox to install a virtual machine of the OS you are thinking, so that way you can test run it without having to worry about affecting your existing install. That way there's no harm, no foul if you end up not liking it

If you're currently running macOS, there's a different software named UTM; it's what I'm currently using right now.
