Due to recent progress with a webkit exploit and a kernal exploit today,(see https://wololo.net/2022/01/27/ps5-e...released-by-chendochap-znullptr-with-writeup/) I believe a lot of people will be looking to purchase a ps5 with firmware 4.03 and lower. For those not in the know, we now have ROP execution of a webkit exploit. It is only a matter of time before the Kernel exploit and the webkit exploit are matched together for a full jailbreak.
However, this only works with firmware 4.03 for now. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing what firmware you will get because there are no databases listing the model numbers and the firmware number they are shipping with. For those of you who find/have bought a ps5 with the model # CF1115A 01x which I bought on December 15, 2021 but only opened tonight, I am happy to say that it ships with firmware 3.2!
I know that some of you are going to say that there is a shortage of ps5s and that you won't really have a choice. I get that. However, there are 15 Million consoles out there already and ps5s are hitting stores more frequently. If anything, the information I am giving can serve for documentation should an eventual database of model # and firmware they ship with is created.
So to recap: if you see a ps5 with model CF1115A 01x there is a good chance you will get a ps5 with under firmware 4.03... I am not sure if this will apply in the next few months...
