Sony is rolling out public beta for cloud streaming of PS5 games at "up to 4K resolution"

After announcing it back in June, Sony is now rolling out its public beta for PS5 games cloud streaming. Users have reported receiving invites to preview the service, which was confirmed by a Sony spokesperson to The Verge. Based on the reports from participants of the beta preview, users can choose between 720p, 1080, 1440p and 2160p resolutions for streaming PS5 games. In addition, games appear to load cloud saves automatically.

This option would rival the Xbox's cloud streaming proposition via Xbox Game Pass which offers a maximum of 1080p resolution at 60 fps. But as The Verge points out, it is not clear whether the 4K resolution refers to the render resolution (gaming graphics) or the streaming resolution (image size mirrored to your TV) but either would help in the streaming experience.

However, this option still in beta phase and has relatively few announcements from Sony for when it will be widely available. That said, such a service could be a potential option for the company's upcoming Project Q handheld, which a recent leak showed that it to have an Android-powered OS.

no matter how good the service is this cloud streaming, there's no way to eliminate input lag entirely, so saying this service will be Xbox's competitor is very overestimated.
In order to eliminate it, you'd need to
1-have at least 10gbps download and upload speed
2-have ethernet connection
3-play in a location at most 2.2km away from their server
Very simple right?

Overestimated to say it will compete with Xbox's cloud service? Huh? That makes zero sense even without the input lag part. They're literally competitors offering a similar competitive service.

yep, time to find a new house then, any idea?
How about an ethernet cable long enough to plug one end on your ps5, the other end in sony's server.

so they are allowing streaming but they are also releasing a controller that also allows streaming. so does that mean you can stream a game to your ps5 while streaming that to your streaming controller? :creep:

Doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize that local streaming from a console is different than streaming from remote cloud servers.

I wonder how much of our current infrastructure is even able to support this
100% capable. What is there to wonder?

No. Logically that wouldn't make sense. You can't stream from your own homeconsole to your phone/tablet.

Why do people bother to even try to make a joke like this, when it clearly wouldn't work?
