Powered on X360 for first time in years and found controller would not stay on. Never had issues before and tried different batteries and cleaned contacts and tried lifting metal tab on the pack. Just blinks four greens lights twice and powers back off and X360 only registers movements for a second. Anyone have any thoughts? Was thinking to purchase a Play and Charge Kit. But does it require the battery pack or will just the cable be enough to allow the X360 to see the controller and movements? Or maybe a wired controller or could anyone recommend third party controller wired or wireless?

A play and charge cable will allow the controller to work without batteries but it still uses wireless to communicate between the controller and the console. Try cleaning your battery contacts and placing pressure on certain areas where the batteries connect. I've had similar issues with a few controllers and it usually had to do with the batteries loosing contact due to a cold solder joint, poor connection or corroded contacts.

It is not a rechargeable battery is it? They can sometimes have issues if they hit deep discharge ("Powered on X360 for first time in years" being how you get that) and need a reset which involved jumping some pins on the battery itself in a specific order.
