    +1 for MAC address whitelist. Not foolproof, but definitely the best security-to-time-spent ratio option. You can also have OpenWRT set the NDS Constraint servers as the default DNS for the connection, so consoles don't need any special setup after connecting.

    Solder the Everdrive to the GBA? What? What would that even accomplish? Just use any of the hundreds of MicroSD to SD extensions. No soldering required. Really strange that you would want something like this though. MicroSD is already far past the capacity and speed the GBA can use.

    I did all of that stuff and it seemed successful but still nothing. The only thing different from the guide I used was that my device wasn't showing up as APX but rather Nintendo Switch.
