Area is saved in the saveslot file. Did you make other saves. If you replaced the wrong save can you replace the right one. You should first backup your saves. Then rename your modded save to one of your saves see if it takes you to right place.
Switch and ps4 saves are the same so you could use a switch save with ps4. You can also use the save editor to import characters. People have been posted character dumps in this thread also you can use editor to extract characters from someone else's save.

Steam saves are encrypted they are different from switch, ps4 and gamepass which are not. You will have to use a trainer or cheat engine script to mod your game. You might be able to use someone else's steam save.
the save editor is basic but it does let you mod items you have on hand (personal storage) so you could buy loads of cheap armour or equipment then change them into other stuff
