Skype was never the only option, just the most popular one.
It fell out of favor when the pandemic pushed Zoom, which allowed more than 5 people in a call at the same time, or something.
I don't think many people use it these days. Microsoft is pushing Teams and has basically abandoned Skype.

No idea. Some probably still use Skype, some switched to Zoom, some to Teams, some to Google Meet?
