During the process of modding my switch, I accidentally ruined the black thermal pad sitting in between the metal shield plate and the BQ24193 battery charging chip. Is this thermal pad absolutely necessary for the health of the system, or can I rely on the thermal regulation of the chip to stay at a safe temperature range? I would rather not order a whole pack of thermal pads just to replace something this small if the worst case scenario is just slower charging times due to current throttling.
