    NES and Sega Genesis were/are not online play enabled. Therein lies the the difference. Nobody cares if you cheat exclusively in airplane mode, you're only depriving yourself of a challenge.

    There might be a short prison sentence, but even if not, the bigger blow is to his campaign with a felony on his record. "Tough on crime" talk doesn't play so well coming from a criminal.

    I concur. Activision sucks and Call of Duty is one of the worst franchises in history in terms of churning out low-effort yearly releases, but these cheats were affecting other games and franchises too. So ultimately this is a net positive.
