Basically, a while back I've bought a PSOne screen that did not work. I do know that the 7812 voltage regulator is the problem, since the screen will work if it's bypassed. The thing is though, that the device requires a 12v input adapter, which makes it seem that the 7812 is only there as overvolt (and possibly reverse polarity?) protection. My question is whether modern 12v adapters (as in from the last 5 or so years) are stable enough that I can just bypass the 7812 and be fine in the long run? (obviously by using the proper polarity and voltage)

edit. Forgot to mention that I have ordered new ones, this is more of an interim situation (I'll pop a new one in once it gets here, just want to know whether I can use the screen in the mean time).

I have a PSOne screen that crapped out on me a while back and won't turn on. Any pointers on how I can go about repairing it?

That's a tricky one, sine there are a number of different screens, best thing is to open it up, and see if the voltages are where they should be (plus a visual inspection to see if any caps have bulged or other components have blown).
What psone screen do you have that requires 12v? lol

I have the official Sony one and it only takes 7.5v DC.

Its a Piranha Xtreme PSOne screen, and it actually does take 12V DC (with another port for the PSOne 7.5V power which it passes through)

Well, the 7812 came in much sooner than expected, and the screen works (mostly) fine (still need to find a couple of barrel jacks that fit, but that's another story). So I guess my question doesn' matter anymore.

Usually when such a big title leaks the Temp will be the first to report about it (going off of historical reports here, Pokemon SV being the latest one I can recall seeing pop up here)
