I recently hacked my 3DS with the hack.3ds.guide site... but when I tried to play Pokemon Shuffle, the 3DS told me that the save was corrupt and started a new game from scratch! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Okay, so I've seen "guides" but I don't understand any of them. Also, they haven't worked for everybody.

Treat me as a total n00b and explain how to access each and every folder - I really don't know anything!

Thanks.

Backup is the keyword here. You need to have a backup of the save data (and extdata if any) in order to recover.
  • If the save file is really corrupted: You need a backup from before the corruption.
  • If you got the "save file is corrupted" message and started a new game: You need a backup from before starting a new game. (Because your save has been overwritten)
The best case I can think of is: The anti-cheat/anti-save-restore function is/was "unhappy" with something.
In this case the save is not really corrupted but the game refuses to accept it. This can be repaired with a save manager by simply backing up the save and restoring it again. The save manager will correct the "secure value" and the game will accept the save.

I backed up my SD card before I hacked the 3DS... so there should be the Pokemon Shuffle save data in among it all somewhere.

How do I find the save data, where do I move it to on the SD card and how do I restore it?

I've read what you're linking me to but I don't understand how it fixes my problem.

I found this: http://3dbrew.org/wiki/SD_Savedata_Backups

But my SD card does not have a backups folder!

SD > DCIM
Long number (IDO) > (Different) Long number > dbs / extdata / title

Title has a load of folder and I found some of them have CONTENT and DATA folders... with a SAV file in the data.

Does anyone know the Pokemon Shuffle folder code for the SAV file?

The link to 3dbrew does not fix the problem. This was just for information about the anti-save-restore feature.

This is a good starting point.
Please wait some time. I just came home and am preparing some screenshots. Seems it does not need any screenshots for finding title IDs. Now I feel dumb.

The official backup function does not work on Pokemon Shuffle on purpose (because it has anti-save-restore).

Assuming Pokemon Shuffle does not have extdata it is as easy a TurdPooCharger pointed out below.
  • Replace the current 00000001.sav with a copy from your backup.
  • Do not start the game yet. It will probably just delete the save again.
  • Use the backup and restore function of one of the save managers.
  • Start the game. Hopefully the save will be back.

Pokemon Shuffle (EUR) - Title ID: 0004000000141000

From your backed up folder, take a copy and replace it with the one on the SD card:
  • sdmc:/Nintendo 3DS/<ID0>/<ID1>/title/00040000/00141000/data/00000001.sav
You'll need to back up and restore the save with Checkpoint or JKSM to reset the secure value.

OMG, you guys are HEROES!

Let's hope this works...

@TurdPooCharger

I'm using some Fast and simple save manager (it has a flag icon) that was installed when I did the 3ds hack.

On the pokemon Shuffle icon, I get the option of (L) back up and (R) restore

What do I need to press to not mess this up?

On coffee break. Haven't used Checkpoint in a while since I don't play video games. I think there's a button, (SELECT)??, that has instructions on how to use it. Can't remember.

Anyway, @KleinesSinchen, can you take from here?
Thanks.

First create a new backup with Checkpoint:
  • Select Pokemon Shuffle from the list with the dpad and press (A)
  • Press (L) to bring up the backup menu and confirm with (A)
  • Give your backup a name or just leave the date as name and touch "Okay"
Then you will have one backup in the list below the word New…
  • Select your backup with the dpad
  • Press (R) and confirm with (A)
  • It should restore the backup you just created and repair secure value
Then exit Checkpoint and open Pokemon Shuffle.

You two are BRILLIANT!

I had to check in to reset the game's clock, then it told me check-in failed and to do it again... but it went through and the save's been restored!

I've been playing this game EVERY DAY for 3 years*, so seeing it all go up in smoke was sickening.

THANKS SO MUCH TO YOU BOTH!

* I'm a very, very. very casual player (and I also haven't tried the save hack).

Edited to add:
Those n00b-proof instructions were amazing.

You are also brilliant! You had a backup. Now that it is done, have a look at my signature.

So many people do not have backups and cry when they lose data.

It is a good idea to back up all saves you care for with Checkpoint. This way you will have a decrypted backup which you can restore on any other hacked 2/3DS system in case you device fails.

The files Checkpoint creates are found here:

SD:/3ds/Checkpoint/saves
SD:/3ds/Checkpoint/extdata

Best store a copy of the Checkpoint folder containing everything on a computer (SD cards can go bad without reason).

(Safe & Proper) Reset the secure value for a (single) game.
EDIT - There is also this way.
  • FBITitlesGameDelete Secure Value

(Quick & Dirty)
Reset the secure values for (ALL) games.
  • GodMode9 → [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND/data/<ID0>/sysdata/00010011/00000000 → press (X) to delete this file.
    • :!: Be careful not to delete anything else.

Hello !

Can you help me ? I want to backup a Shuffle save too. I tried to do what you said on a brand new hacked 3ds with a brand new Pokémon Shuffle file, but it doesn't work : I start the game, I play until there's a save, I quit the game, I replace the save by the backed up save, but when I try to back up the save with Chekpoint, it says : "Error 0xD900458A Failed to open save archive".

Can you help me to succeed to back up my save too, please ?

(I'm sorry : I'm french, and I don't write - nor speak - english very well)

I forgot to mention that the Shuffle save is on an other 3DS than the one I hope to use to back up the save.

@Xdqwerty there is health behaviour you can add to your character, then to use a health bar is lil more complicated, google n watch a few tutorial video on it, be too hard to explain here.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, the character has the health behavior
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I know you have to create a health and health max variable. Then there is a calculation you use in code to subtract width size of the health bar. Google few vids.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, the "greenflatbar" is one of the preset health bars btw
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you can use any bar/sprite. It will just change the width. Ok good luck and have fun. I'm off to go shoot some pool at the bar. Talk to you later.

@BigOnYa, why does the health behavior exist if you can just use a variable?
