How To Set the Booktype on nearly any Drive!
by: Kitt050383

For those of you out there that know how to set the booktype for your Dvd Burner with ImgBurn good for you... But that only worked if your drive is one of the drives supported by that program...
And a lot of drives aren't... But that does not mean that they can't have the booktype set...

So that's where Nero's cd-dvd speed Application comes in....
It has a higher compatibility with setting the booktype for drives...

Now I must state not all drives booktypes can be set... (mostly really old ones)
And you should really look into the vendors website to see if they offer a solution for booktype setting...

Also Nero's cd-dvd speed application is a 100% free it is not warez!!!!!

Steps:
[1.] Download Nero's cd-dvd speed: http://rapidshare.com/files/171577578/CDSpeed.rar

[2.] After extracting the file to wherever you like open the application!

[3.] Now Select your burner from the dropdown menu!

[4.] Now click on: Extra > Bitsetting...

[5.] This is now where we will set the BookType!
Follow the Image below! And Paydirt!

Thanks kitt, but it does not work for my DH16A1L DVD burner in the HP desktop, all the setting buttons on the Bitsetting page are grey. I did a search, and found that this burner is actually a lite-on drive, then I tried the IMGBurn, but it gave me "FAILED" message when I selected any of the media in the book type change page for lite-on.
Maybe this drive just does not support the book type change?

Thank you so much. I will try it tomorrow.

I have tons of DVD+R's I've been wanting to burn some Wii games on,

And I'm guessing my PC Drive doesn't support DVD+R's because when I burn things to it, it can never write it correctly.

It should be emphasised it doesn't work for all drives, similarly depending on your drive it might have better capability writing to certain types of media than others, beyond the simple DVD+R/DVD-R.

I.e different brands use different dyes varying in quality etc.

CDfreaks is better for drive/media info.

There was another topic on this board which talked about DVDInfoPRO used to detect this kind of thing and detect how good your DVD burn is. I think people slammed it though because the TC said bad burns can kill your wii drive lens and never backed it up with proof.

FlatFrogger I stated:

You Stated:

This really has to do w/ updating your firmware for better compatibility w/ media....
Not the booktype setting.....

The only reason I don't list DvdInfoPro is because it's not free....

Ahh yes, just saw a Nero Toolkit named DiscSpeed

Before I ran DriveSpeed which can't change the booktype, so I was lost
rofl2.gif
.

Anyway, there's only two options here:
DVD-ROM
and
DVD+R

It's currently set on DVD-ROM

I'm using this mainly to burn avi and mp3s. Don't know if you noticed my topic before, but I was having - 32 error when using Mplayer Wii and loaded my DVD, dj recommended me to use DVD-R.

So, what should I set it to?

Question. Once you change it with Nero's cd-dvd speed, will it be set for all applications such as IMGBurn or JUST Nero applications? Is it a change to the drive itself, or to Nero software?

Thanks.
