THE ARM7-FIX

What?
A few dumped roms today comes with a new kind of protection, commonly referred to as the "arm7-protection". If you try to load a protected rom on some flash carts (R4, DS-X, G6 etc.), you will receive an error that tells you that something went wrong with your save file (or equivalent) and you will not be able to play the dumped rom. In this thread, you'll learn how to crack these roms by yourself, bypassing this protection.

If your game won't start and gives you an error message about saving data, you most likely need the arm7-fix.
A hacked arm7.bin file can be downloaded from my web page, and will do the trick for every game (per today) that requires this fix.

Brief tutorial on how to replace the arm7.bin-file:

1. Open up the rom with dslazy and click «nds unpack»
2. A new window will now open, do not close this.
3. Copy the hacked arm7.bin-file (link earlier in this post) inside the newly opened directory (NDS_UNPACK), and replace the existing arm7.bin-file
4. Click «nds packer», select where to save the modified file and load the rom up on your flash cart.
5. Happy gaming!

... What's the point? With the newest updates they work on... like... every flashcart
tongue.gif
AFAIK. They work on the R4 (Zelda and Simcity that is... I don't know about the others).

@loathsome

I suggest you to create this thread on the DS-X subforum. The compatibility issues caused by the new arm7.bin revisions is not of GENERAL concern, because all other competent flashkit manufacturers updated their firmwares long time ago to fix that problem. If for some reason a new arm7.bin compatibility problem arise, be sure their flashkit manufacturers will take care, so they don't bother with this list.

The R4 works with all those game without a need for a patch. Only DS-X and some other slot-2 carts need that fix.

I've just heard examples of people (IRC etc.) that had problems with these games on DS-X, M3, R4, whatever.

I can confirm that they need the arm7-fix to run on the DS-X, though.

edit: Confirmed that the EZ Flash IV needs the arm7-fix as well.

So, this ARM7-fix required to run on some flashcarts....is this technically bad dumps or something that some flashcart developers just worked around?
Is it a new type of copy protection that Ninty is trying to use?
Is it something like what Squire was doing where he was screwing with the ROM after dumping them?
Is it simply a way of programming some ROMs that give certain flashcarts a heart attack because they don't get updated regularly?

Me am not understand.

Yes I like to play games that offer something

Oh and one of the best reasons for why you'd do this even if you own a R4/M3DS is because you hate the delete function. I'm using M3DS firmware 1.02 and all of my games work with no problems (except the download play). Doing the arm7 switch lets me play all these protected games without having to worry that someone may delete a game (little bro)

Rayder:
It's a new copy protection method, that with a little time can easy be broken

I think Donkey Kong Jungle Climber (J) and Chameleon To Dye For both have the same problem, but I haven't tried patching them yet to see if it fixes them. The first one starts with an error like Zelda:PH, the second gets an error when trying to save.

Do all of the games still work with a firmware that old

Still, why don't you just... hide your DS from your little brother? Or tell him not to touch the X-button?

I've got something like over 100 games spread over four microsd's and they all work prefectly.

Oh and I told him not to touch the X-button but he somehow did

1- No, not bad dumps. It's a supposed protection from Nintendo.

2- Read above.

3- No...that was compacting the ROM, if I recall correctly, which caused many people to get annoyed because it wouldn't run on their flashcards.

4- Nah, but it pwned DS-X users a while back.

No. EZ Flash IV don't need the fix. They work just fine with the latest software, which came a couple of weeks ago.

Could someone like... Teach a noob on how to use this?
And will all games that are coming out in the future going to have this protection?
