OpenTyrian DS v0.2
Lots of Fixes and Features Added
[2122]OpenTyrianDS.png

Version 0.2 for the DS port of the computer game Tyrian, OpenTyrian DS.
The update includes music volume control, increased gamma (for more vibrant colors), and much more!

v0.2 - Added option to not horizontally scale the display, to make text
easier to read. On the menus, use the L and R buttons to scroll
left and right while in this mode; during actual gameplay, the
statusbar (shields, weapons, generator, etc.) will appear on
the bottom screen, while the actual playing field will appear on
the top screen. The main menu will still be scaled, because
you don't lose anything there so you might as well not have to scroll.
This mode is now the default; if you prefer the display to always
be scaled, as it was in v0.1, you can toggle the scaling mode on the
OpenTyrian menu (accessible from the main menu)--this replaces the
fullscreen option, which is irrelevant on the DS.

Fixed music volume control.

Added menu options to the OpenTyrian menu to start Destruct
(the artillery mini-game), Super Tyrian, and Super Arcade Mode,
since we don't have a keyboard to type in the codes.

Remapped controls for Destruct to be DS-friendly. Only one-player
mode is supported, due to lack of physicial buttons (and awkwardness).

Increased gamma, for more vibrant colors.

Fixed a bug causing a Guru Meditation crash when attempting to
load a savegame. This bug only affects games originally
saved by OpenTyrian DS version 0.1 (and unfortunately, any
existing such savegames remain corrupt).

Holy SHIT! Tyrian was an AMAZING game, with some of the best music for a shooter! Same guy who did Deus Ex (Alexander Brandon) did the music for Tyrian...and man, two-player mode in Tyrian was awesome. I guess I'm dating myself since kids these days have their newfangled grumble grumble...

but seriously, check out Tyrian! I can't wait to check this port out!

Data cube reading! I skipped those when I was a kid because I could barely read them..

Also WOOT at the extra modes available!

Hmm.. the guru error still occurs at Camanis on my old file.

Great to see such a quick update, I was super impressed with 0.1, but this looks even better. Again big props to all those involved in putting this all together. Anyone who hasn't played this game, I suggest you stop reading and get it now, as it is one of the better games on the DS.

Hey, where's "Ale"? I played this on OpenTyrian as a bonus-game, but lost it since only the auto-save was working. Would be nice to play it once in a while.

I would've been happy if the last version was final, such a damn fine port (better with Raydars wav files) but now there's Destruct I'm happier.

Awesome music too. Epic & Apogee really did show that PC could do great Arcade games in the early 90's.

btw, does this game suffer a little of slow down and runs 60% of its original framerate or its just my DSTT?
