WiiScrubber 1.1 Beta
Fix for Mario Kart Channel bug
wiiscrubber11b.jpg

GBAtemp's very own Dack has updated the popular WiiScrubber to fix the problem with Mario Kart Wii not being able to install the Mario Kart Channel.

The new version allows the unscrubbing of files with a special .dif file for the ISO in question (not available on GBAtemp). Restoring Mario Kart to its original state will fix the Mario Kart channel not being able to install.

Whats new?
1. Allows for creation of DIF files to allow unscrubbing of data
2. Allows for merging of scrubbed and dif files to produce original ISO
3. Also works on gamecube discs but probably still better to use GC Tools
4. Display of region and number of files in disc
5. Key.bin verification - to stop the 150Meg files
6. 4.5 Gig limit removed - now at Dual layer
7. Different scrubbing options available
wink.gif
See below
8. registry saves for chosen options
9. If you don't have the key.bin you can still unscrub

Bug fixes:
1. Release version bug now corrected thanks to Juster at GBATemp.net.
a freed pointer was accessed just after being freed.
2. Several text display bugs cleared.
3. File size now checked during processing so that ALL of the ISO is copied)
4. Gamecube offsets now correctly accessed (they are different as they are not
encrypted so you have the full 32k in each block)
5. I actually check for file read/write errors
WiiScrubber is used to shrink a Wii iso's filesize when compressed. As always you can download the latest version from GBAtemp below:

Hopefully someone can scrub Super Smash Bros. Brawl (for those of us who've yet to play!).

Bravo, Dack!

It will only go down by about 700 Meg or so. Still need to do some checking to make sure the VC games are properly tagged in that game though - thats why it's still a beta at present.

It's where it creates files to fill the blank space on the disc and then creates the modified fst.bin and boot.bin necessary to utilise them.

If 3.5 Gig of space was found it would create two padding files - one of 1 Gig and one of .5 gig. A modified fst.bin is also created that adds on 5 files to the disc image that are mapped as having data in that area.

When these files are added into the image - using trucha signa - then the entire disc is marked as used with the correct hash table values. As the encryption creates a repeating pattern for the padding files then the image still compresses

It does rely on the Trucha signing bug though and doesn't work on all images at present (as some DDI games have the data marked as right at the start of the partition instead of at the end etc.... Smash Brothers has a bit of free space near the layer break that is detected instead of the correct larger chunk at the end of the data etc.)

I was just trying to add data to a disc that was not originally on there.

Oh and one of the other effects of the Trucha option is that it's possible to put files onto the disc that are bigger than the original - with a bit of work (change the fst.bin entry for the file you want to add/change to point to the free area marked for the scrubber1 to 5 file entries) and you can then bypass the Trucha "file must be smaller or same size" limitation.

I've got some queries in my mind regarding about the WiiScrubber.

Great. Perhaps scrubbed releases might no longer be considered a scrub if the dif is included?

As we scrub the titles, we're taking out blank data and padding it so when the file is compressed down (to save space, bandwidth etc..)
Are we able un-scrub scrubbed-titles to get back the original file (where checksum is correct)?

By the way, how big can the diff files be?

Cheers!

Yes the original file, when unscrubbed, can go back to the original image and has the same MD5.

The normal DIF file is the size of the data that has been overwritten. In the case of Mario a scrub/diff of that would be about 2.9G for a compressed ISO and 1.5G for the associated dif.

The special dif file floating around is effectively a 'patch' for the version that was created with Wiiscrubber 1.0a to bring it into line with what would have been created with version 1.1.

I'm against adding compression due to the fact people tend to prefer their own compressors (RAR, ZIP, 7Z etc)

However - the next version will have something rather sweet in it. A bug fix.

This fixes a very subtle bug but has quite impressive results
smile.gif

Lets just say that the smallest scrubbed game I've found is now running at about 71 Meg instead of 350 Meg. (I haven't tried Wiichess but anecdotaly that should go down to about 30 Meg)

The files created by the existing beta are fine it's just that the bug meant I was marking as used a rather large chunk of data that actually wasn't.

More news, as it happens.
