Hekate boots into RCM when trying to launch any HOS configuration.

I need some guidance on what to do in order to fix my problem. I have a launch switch which I inject with TegraRCM and hekate. Hekate currently causes my switch to enter rcm mode when I try to launch stock sysMMC, cfw sysMMC, or emuMMC. Basically anything related to HOS. If I try to inject the hekate payload after this happens I get a message saying "HOS panic occurred!", with a "color" of "####" and the code "06". After shutting down the next time I try to inject it will work like normal. I am able to boot into stock sysMMC just fine if I turn off auto rcm and boot the console normally, so the console is NOT bricked or otherwise dead in some way. I am also able to boot into lakka just fine using Hekate.

Here's what I did just before this started happening. I updated Hekate, Atmosphere, and sigpatches. I tested to make sure cfw was still working fine and it was. I then dumped my newly updated sysMMC firmware with TegraExplorer, and then proceeded to update my emuMMC using daybreak. It was after updating the emuMMC firmware that I became unable to launch any HOS configuration from hekate. I'm currently wondering if it had something to do with the format I selected when I installed the firmware. The guide I went off of just said to pick the exFat + fat32 option, but thinking about it I'm preeeeeeety sure nothing on my sd card is actually exFat, and I think that might have corrupted something. I have no idea what though, or how I should proceed with fixing this. Could anyone help me out?

I see, so it is basically just game installations, save data, and screen captures. In that case I know what I'm going to do. I will start fresh. I don't know if any of my backups have corruption or not. For all I know corruption has been slowly building up and it was only now that it started causing problems. So, starting over seems safest in order to prevent future issues. I'll make sure my stock save data is stored to system memory and not SD so that it isn't lost. I have already backed up all my screen captures, so that's no problem. I can just reinstall all of my games too. Once I can get cfw working again I'll try dropping my old emuMMC folder in and see if I can't load it up in order to back up its save data before starting on...

When I was backing up my micro sd card to my pc I got an error for one file saying I couldn't copy it over because it was corrupted. The file is in my official Nintendo folder, not emuMMC, and the file says it was last modified two months ago. The name/location is "Nintendo\Contents\registered\0000000B\2333dd3859b65cdb99d8c6e4fead60cc.nca\00".

Maybe this is the source of my error? Not sure what to do about this, since I'm pretty sure this is encrypted data and could break something if deleted, right? I only have a backup of the Nintendo folder from about a year ago.

Exactly the files on your card got corrupted, that´s very common on ExFAT formatted cards.

now your only option is go back to a backup or start over again, please be sure to use FAT32 format on your card, you can Use hekate for that.

Just goes to show how some very well constructed guides are in fact written by people who don't know what they're talking about. I will certainly be paying way more attention to the formatting options from now on. I will be reformatting the sd card and will update on whether I can get things to work after.

I have a question: what data does the stock Nintendo switch store on the sd card exactly? Is it just game data, or is there more important stuff I could lose if I start over?

strange almost all guides I have read explicitly tell you why do not use ExFAT and explain is prone to corruption.

You are mixing two things, ONE is the card format and the other is the installation of new Firmware, when Daybreak ask if you like install FAT32 or FAT32+ExFAT that options are the drivers installations that means if the new firmware will be able to read FAT32 or FAT32 and ExFAT, that options DO NOT CHANGE the SD Card Format.

Okay, there has been some confusion. I did not know that option was referring to drivers. I went ahead and just double checked the format of my SD to clear things up about that, and it says it is indeed fat32. I thought so, because I was sure the guide I used to hack my switch said to use fat32 and avoid exFAT back when I used it. I am confused as to how the belief that my card was exFAT formatted began, as I said I was pretty sure it wasn't exFAT in my first post.

Anyway, considering it is fat32 I don't know how this corruption happened. Maybe my SD card has gotten bad, or the switch's sd card reader itself is going bad? I will looking into getting new ones. With that said, I will reiterate my question from before.

I have a question: what data does the stock Nintendo switch store on the sd card exactly? Is it just game data, or is there more important stuff I could lose if I start over?

I would appreciate getting an answer to this so I know whether it's a good idea to just start fresh or not.

You can use the console without SD Card and user data get stored on the EMMC NAND.

If you are using a non modded console and you put a SD card on the console, the SD card becomes the default USER space. so in there you can:
  • Install games
  • store savedata of games
  • store media from screen shots and video captures
All data is stored on SD:/Nintendo folder


When you have a EmuNAND setup, a virtual Nintendo folder is created to be the match of the EmuNAND, normally is stored on SD:/emuMMC/EMID/Nintendo folder (Where EMID is an ID of the EmuNAND)

I don't know if any of my backups have corruption or not. For all I know corruption has been slowly building up and it was only now that it started causing problems. So, starting over seems safest in order to prevent future issues. I'll make sure my stock save data is stored to system memory and not SD so that it isn't lost. I have already backed up all my screen captures, so that's no problem. I can just reinstall all of my games too. Once I can get cfw working again I'll try dropping my old emuMMC folder in and see if I can't load it up in order to back up its save data before starting on a fresh emuMMC.

Yes first backup all data you want from your SD Card, then format it to fat 32 using fat32 format (https://gbatemp.net/download/gui-format.33869/) then test your sd card using H2Testw (https://www.heise.de/download/product/h2testw-50539)

after that copy only hekate to your card, boot the console and enter to NYX Holding VOL DOWN while starting the console, then using Tools menu format the card again, turn off the console and setup all from start, if you like make a emunand using your current SysNAND.

You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version?
