I'm sorry to write to you directly, but unfortunately no one at GBATemp is answering me and I'm a bit lost. Here (https://gbatemp.net/threads/wii-output-is-fixed-hooray.628514/post-10113726) you discussed the following settings need to be made to produce the "best" vWii output:

evWii: TV Viewport Width/Height to 704x480

boot vWii via boot2vWii with 720p/1080p

USBLoader: eflicker set to Off (Extended) and Video Width set to Auto

My Questions are:

Did I understand these settings right?

to 2. Why should I force 720p or 1080p (this is the standard upscaling) - Couldn't I then simply do without boot2vwii?

to 2. What is better: 720p or 1080p?

to 2. How exactly do you do this?

Many thanks for your help (if you do).
Replying to the DM you sent me publicly instead for formatting.

to 2. Why should I force 720p or 1080p (this is the standard upscaling) - Couldn't I then simply do without boot2vwii?

For whatever reason I found color-bleeding was worse when booting the vWii Menu and navigating to USB Loader GX manually than when opening it with the boot2vwii forwarder. Why is anyone's guess. It just seemed to be the case.

to 2. What is better: 720p or 1080p?

Both are equally meh. 1080p probably a tad better but the reason not 480p is that Wii U's 480p output over HDMI looks way softer than a real Wii does.

to 2. How exactly do you do this?

1. Set up USB Loader GX and ensure it is working.
2. Install the vWii compatible UNEO USB Loader GX Forwarder wad in vWii using a vWii wad manager like Some YAWMM Mod
3. Compile Boot2vwii with to forward to the UNEO forwarder you installed on vWii, and place the wuhb file in wiiu/apps on the SD card. I do not bother forcing a video mode since my Wii U mode is always outputting in 1080p by default anyway, but if you wanted to force a video mode, you could by changing the make flags.

I posted some image assets you can use for the icon and splash screen when compiling on the boot2vwii thread somewhere (page 5 or so?). If you can't be bothered to compile, here is my own old personal wuhb compiles here (see attachment to the post. You still need to install the UNEO USB Loader GX vWii forwarder.)

Thank you very much, you are awesome! But I du have three more questions:
1) Surely boot2vwii only offers the ability to force 720p, npt 1080p (or is "None" to force 1080p)?
2) You are talking about "video mode" - you must mean 720p, right?
3) If you are not forcing "video mode", does that mean you are forcing "None" or that you are not forcing anything?

To summarise:
1) Install USB Loader GX on the vWii
1a) Set to Off (Advanced) and Video Width to Auto
2) Install UNEO USB Loader GX Forwarder wad in vWii
3) Compile boot2vwii to redirect to the wad (see boot2vwii questions above)
4) evWii: TV viewport width/height to 704x480

And then I have a great vWii picture, right?

Boot2vWii offers the option to force P480, P720, NONE as compile time flags. See the readme.md on the repo for details. The build I posted earlier on the boot2vwii thread was compiled as NONE. When the Wii U itself is set to 1080p, results in no video mode change, most people run their Wii U at 1080p as you would imagine. And yes, in USB Loader GX, Deflicker should be set to Off (Advanced) and Video Width to Auto. This will yield the best looking results from my testing from my recollection, and is how I generally play Wii games on my Wii U, on the occasion I decide to do so.

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
