I'd say a similar thing about Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion, but for some reasons people like her anyway, so I guess some people have their weird reasons with Amy as well.
Why is it okay for girls to be like this, when any guy who tried this would end up with a million restraining orders and widely hated?
Fucking hell, I hate double standards.
"Fucking hell, I hate double standards."
How to answer this? First of all: I agree with you. It is one of the topics where factual discussion isn't possible with a broad audience. There is a premade, supposedly (!) universally agreed on, "correct" way of seeing things – and "wrong" opinions.
A male uttering critique, no matter if he has sensible arguments against such unfairness, will face merciless…
…punishment. On the internet there are a few phrases, name-calling, that have to be applied on the “offender” to ridicule him unpunished after this stamp has been placed (without any justification needed). One of these words, which aggravate me a lot, is incel. Mention it → the guy is finished; no matter how well-founded his statements are. A verbal Mortal Combat Fatality (and just as realistic and sensible)
As for the representation of females in current media (literature, movies, games)… well… I feel offended by the picture painted of women. In a naive+constraint manner every female figure has to be a harsh opposite of what could be considered(!) a traditional role. The result is more often than not something I can’t translate. Vulgar expression for a very unpleasant, arrogant and obnoxious person.
@x65943 Not at all, no. In my book, the more obnoxious the more off-putting - for another Sonic character, Charmy the Bee is fairly cute for an anthro bee, but no-one really likes him because he's obnoxious. Unless that's supposed to only be for girls?
