I forget where I read but the DS Mode check for certain hardware components and will fail if they have issues. Other than the camera, a failing or loose wifi chip can also result in DS mode not working.
I actually tried the hardware test recently due trying to fix DS Mode and and got 0 errors. As for a corrupted sd card, is there a specific way to test for that?
Anything 3ds mode related has been perfectly fine. Just this, DS Mode and GBA Virtual Console result in a a freeze that require a...
Nope because it doesn't even get to that point, just immediate freeze and the Chainloader options are just stuck on the screen with no response to any controls. This is my first time trying it though, so unsure if its related to the DS Mode problem or not. Maybe not based on the fact it works...
You could try calibrating and/or turning off the Super-Stable 3D, in the 3DS settings menu, since that is related to the new 3DS 3D functionality. You should be able to see a preview of the tracking in the bottom right corner this way too.
Was curious and tested open_agb_firm, and for me at least it's not working. It just freezes on the chainloader menu and I'm forced to manually power off the device.
Not sure if anyone else has dealt with this but the moment I launch open_agb_firm from the chainloader menu my 3ds just freezes on the chainloader menu and I'm forced to power off the 3ds manually. I've been having issue also launching DS mode though, so maybe related.
Just wanted to add to this since I just recently came up to a similar situation. It's seems like you did similar things to me and some more. To add to what you did, I had a Nand backup from two years ago that I restored to and even in that scenario DS Mode resulted in a black screen.
In my case...
Actually I was able to get a NAND backup before this happened (from the original owner who hacked it). This process seemingly worked, but it did not fix the ds mode (same stuck in black sceen). Now going though all the steps here:

I just ended up with the same problem, but also happening with and without enabling external firms and game patching.
Also ran twfix, following all instructions and in the same situation.
I had not run twpatch recently (and it was working after I had run it). The only ds thing I had done...
It seems after applying the newest updaate, DS mode on my 3DS is dead. Just getting stuck on a black screen launching anything DS related, forcing a manual power off. Googled a bit and ran TWLFix-CFW (making sure to do the system update after), but things seem to be the same.
Yeah, I was happy it was working, but even on Windows 8 my computer just bluescreens if I install PPjoy now. Vjoy is like the modern PPJoy, but it seems to lack the functionality that PPjoy has and PadSend seemingly doesn't work with Vjoy (because it was made for use with PPJoy). PPjoy is...
Well, would you look at that, it worked. I just randomly decided to download the second posted version of pad send (which I believe i tried before) and tried it out without changing anything and it worked perfectly. The only real difference I can think of is this time I already had some set up...
I allowed access to port UDP 9501 to my router for the wii. I also disabled my anti virus. Microsoft firewall has permission for padsend to use network. I'm still getting same results and I know I changed the ip of server and boot.dol right, i checked so many times just to make sure. I checked...
So I thought what you told me would work (changing the server ip especially), but oddly nothing changed. I used a hex editor on Padsend Server exe file and replaced the 1 with 2 in 192.168.1.255 and saved the changes (checking that it was saved to make sure). i then did then padsend_wii.dol gets...
I have used wiiexplorer ftp server before and it has worked but this doesn't. It seems padsend just wont connect to my gamecube controller. I have ppjoy version 8.4.6 installed (which i have tested as working). I did exactly the same setup on ppjoy (only not changing the stuff not mentioned). I...
I've been playing fallout4 all day, I went into a elevator and it kept going, never stopped, waited 5 minutes, must of been a bug. How bout you, whatcha do today?
