Emulation help with cheat codes

I use snes9x for playing SNES games but sometimes I play those games with an rtc on bizhawk and I want to use cheats but when I put those cheats in and turn them on nothing happens and snes9x's .cht files don't work on anything else sometimes not even snes9x on other platforms

so how do I use cheats on bizhawk and if you know how tell me how to use snes9x .cht files on anything else
