Yaba Sanshiro, an improved, standalone Sega Saturn emulator, has been ported to the Nintendo Switch

Those who enjoy emulation on their Nintendo Switch now have something new to play around with, thanks to the recent port of the Sega Saturn emulator Yaba Sanshiro to the platform. Emulation of the Sega Saturn has always been tricky, and while performance can vary wildly, this open-source emulator manages to boot a good number of titles, including Sonic R, Burning Rangers, Nights into Dreams, and Die Hard: Arcade, with some in a very playable state. This emulator is a standalone version, based on Lakka, and requires specific instructions, which can be seen below. As this is still an early development project, there are a few issues, such as Joy-Con desyncing, volume being unable to be changed, and sleep mode not working correctly.

What you need
  • Way to start Nintendo Switch in RCM (Usb Recovery Mode)
  • 2GByte or more SD card formatted with FAT32
  • Nitendo Switch without RCM measures
Prepare SD card
  • Format SD card with FAT32
  • Download image from here
  • Unzip image and copy yabasanshiro and bootloader folder to SD card
  • Create roms folder in yabasanshiro/storage folder and copy game ISO image
  • Get BIOS data from actual Sega Saturn machine and copy it to yabasanshiro/storage with the file name bios.bin (this step is not mandatory)
  • Download the latest version of hekate from [here] (https://github.com/CTCaer/hekate/releases)
  • Unzip and copy bootloader folder to SD card
  • When all steps are completed, the layout will be as shown below.
```
├── bootloader
│ ├── hekate_ipl.ini
│ ├── ini
│ │ └── 00-YabaSanshiro.ini
│ ├── patches_template.ini
│ ├── payloads
│ ├── res
│ └── sys
└── yabasanshiro
├── boot
├── licenses
└── storage
├── bios.bin
└── roms
└── game.cue
```

How to boot
  • Start NintendoSwitch in RCM mode and send hekate payload.
  • Select "More Configs" -> "YabaSanshiro".

Notes / Restrictions
  • Not all games are playable
  • In Japan passing a copied game and BIOS image to others is against copyright law
  • In Japan using a game or BIOS image copied by someone else is against copyright law
  • Nintendo Switch may be damaged by performing this procedure
  • Sleep but not wake
  • Volume cannot be changed
  • Remote Joy-con is not available
  • Sometimes Joy-con does not work
  • OS sometimes fails to start

    I just recently picked up a n64 from a garage sell, and looking to mod it and add a HDMI port to it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3548173115...044&customid=4f3038da73b61afddf7e5e90f4153856
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    I'd like to find a power strip and HDMI selector built in 1 unit, so I can select which game system I want, and will switch to that hdmi, and power on that plug/power supply only, so don't have all game systems powered all the time, but can't find anything like. May just have to make something myself.

    Maybe start a kick starter page and sell them, yea right. Big N would prob C&D me, not anything Big N related, but just because that's what they do nowdays. Then come out with they own in a year or so.

    @Xdqwerty, Nice. Which operating system are you installing?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ, windows 10 and some linux distro like linux mint
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    dualbooth
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    At least Linux doesn't contain spyware than what Windows has.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

    @SylverReZ,
    I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

    @SylverReZ,
    I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

  • impeeza @ impeeza:
    @Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.
