Loved your Theme, is like a Gamecube.Hey so I made a Pretendo Network inspired theme and I'm pretty close to being done with it, I don't have much more I need to do and tbh it might even be done now I'm not sure. Because it's in such a close to being finished state I thought I might as well post it now. So here you go
Note: Not only is the menu itself region specific but the actual text is language specific per region. This means the conditions to get the language replacement that I included would require you to have a US Console that's language is set to US English. To port to other regions shouldn't be a hard process and same with porting to specific languages but for the moment it's only for what I mentioned above.
Theme manager is an rpx, which makes it work with aroma just fineIs there an Aroma version of Theme Manager ? A .wuhb file, maybe ?

ORIGINAL POST:
So this can be a thing now, how exciting is that? Thanks to @CafeCentralUI and his thread here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/released-rosalina-theme-installer-for-wii-u.588203/ the information is now out there on what files need to be altered to create our own themes on the Wii U. While his thread isn't so much a tutorial as it is a guiding hand on where to look to create themes, there was enough info there for me to make a pretty cool theme for my Wii U, not only do I want to show it off, but I wanna share it so that you can download and use it too, and hopefully in time more and more themes can be added and shared in this thread, for example I may do a proper dark theme next if someone else doesn't do it themselves. I recognize that without a proper guide telling you which parts you want to edit and in what way to alter whatever parts of the Wii U menu, there probably wont be a lot of people trying this yet, but if I see enough demand, I could be the one to make a proper tutorial on what info is where (it's all scattered in so many places, that going back to recall what is where sounds like a nightmare).
Regardless, here's my first theme, I call it Vaporwave Summer:

Now, before I provide the download link I just want to say, that if doing anything to the Wii U system files scares you, then you probably should only use this in SDCafiine, taking the included Men.pack and Men2.pack files and putting them in the following location:
US: sdcafiine/0005001010040100/content/Common/Package/
EU: sdcafiine/0005001010040200/content/Common/Package/
JPN: sdcafiine/0005001010040000/content/Common/Package/
You can install themes permanently via FTP, just as you can for custom Wara Wara Plazas (see my sig for more info). But when first I tried this with FTP, it yielded issues, issues that scared me for a moment that I may have had a brick (thankfully it wasn't a complete brick thanks to having a coldboot CFW and I was able to recover, but not without a few minutes of fearing I had lost everything), it could just be my FTP client on the computer, but whatever it is, I felt lucky that I was able to get back to the standard menu theme without issue. After gaining some courage, I tried again, and was able to yield some positive results:
GOING PERMANENT EDIT: You can go permanent, but I had to kinda cheese the ftp client by hitting overwrite like 3 times before hitting skip when transferring the file for each file to properly transfer. Go permanent at your own risk, you can read in detail what I went through to make it happen. Others had no issue though so it may just be the ftp client on my PC that was the issue. I don't know. Regardless, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT IF YOU DON'T HAVE A COLDBOOT CFW INSTALLED (CBHC OR TIRAMISU), YOU CAN EASILY BRICK DOING THIS, BUT CBHC OR TIRAMISU CAN AND WILL SAVE YOU FROM THIS KIND OF BRICK (it saved me)
SAFER PERMANENT THEME INSTALLATION ALTERNATIVES TO FTP: For a safer means less liable to lead to any bricks, use the Rosalina Theme Installer or Theme Manager instead. As long as you have a coldboot CFW, then the risk of any real permanent bricks has been all but eliminated.

A Theme Manager would be pretty cool...
Well you can essentially have one by making each theme a separate 'modpack' folder for the Wii U menu inside your SDCafiine folder, then any time you launch SDCafiine, you essentially pull up a theme loader like so:
Please let me know if you have any questions further on setting this up.
HOW CAN I MAKE ONE?!
I have a rough spreadsheet I've been working from that makes it clear to me what I need to do, though it's not the most thoroughly explained at this point.
I'll share it here: Men.pack and Men2.pack feature locations
And if anyone wants to take a stab at their own theme with that info, have at it. I do intend to make it a bit more clear in the future, but it should be enough info for anyone to figure out what I was doing.
Finally, I'm receiving word that others are making a tutorial for making and installing themes. That's cool, of course, as is the case for anything like this on GBATemp, always use caution following a video guide, and if something goes wrong following someone else's guide, please don't blame me, I would still recommend looking through my info here and throughout this thread for help first.
Yes, you can. There is the "backup original theme" option by pressing R. There is a folder with the original theme backupped up as welli can use the original theme back??
Yes pleaseeeee. I would enjoy it so much!Hello, I'm working on a Mario Galaxy theme, by replacing the FloatIcon00 (All the little floating icons in the background) model with the Comet Observatory. It's still in a very WIP stage, I need to add the texture, a custom animation to make it rotate on itself, put the theme in a dark/dark blue style (space-like), and then I plan on adding more to the scene, like a sun, some planet, and adding stars (surely by replacing bg02 with a Mario Galaxy space background).
Even if other theme changing the 3D model like this doesn't seem to exist yet, any tips/advice about doing themes would be welcome.
For some additional information, the vertex count of my model is 28702, and the model is divided into 199 parts, load times and menu fluidity are not impacted whatsoever.

And if anyone knows how, how can I get rid of that blurry effect?
Oh I'm sorry I missed you asking that earlier, I had long ago pointed to the blur and haze effects in my Google document on the first page, perhaps you missed it hereHey, I'm still working on the theme I talked about earlier, for some information on my progress, I tried and tried to implement a custom animation, but in vain. I managed to edit it tho, you can try the theme with the edited animation here. But attaching a model to a bone or replacing the armature (with custom animation) broke everything for me every time (no crash tho, so it needs to be a me problem I think), maybe it needs a custom animation in which the keyframes are set for each frame? But I'm not really sure, If someone manages to find an answer, or just succeeded in making a custom animation with a custom 3d model, you're welcome to message me.
Anyway, I'm writing this because, as I was deleting random files from "Men2.pack/Common/Env/Men.szs/Env.genvb1/" to maybe find the file that makes the blur effect, I found it, you need to delete the file named "env.bagldof". But the blur effect is still present behind the app icons though.
So yeah, that is all I had to say.
Edit: File was too large so I added a google drive link instead.
Very nice!Ah yes I saw that, thanks a lot for compiling these, very helpful to navigate through the files, but the blur effect I was talking about is a different one, the one you already encountered when you replaced bg02 in "Men2.pack/Common/Model/LoungeVR.szs", all the images were blurry. Look at these Images, I made a side by side comparison with/without env.bagldof (with collect.genvres removed too).
I love the work you're doing here, pushing things forward beyond what's already been found for Wii U themes. Happy to see others getting into Wii U theme making. To motivate some people to do their own fancy themes, here is an edited LougneVR.szs that I made that makes the skybox a square instead of a dome, much easier to work with. Hope it will be useful to some.
To use it, just right-click the LoungeVR.szs file (located in "Men2.pack/Common/Model/") and click on "Replace Raw Data" in "Archive" (Edit: or not in "Archive" if you didn't open the szs), and select the file in the zip.
The Home Menu? I think to edit that you would need to patch the rpx, but I don't really know, so don't count on my words. Would be nice indeed to have more info on that! This is great and all but there's still so much info that hasn't been shared like how to recolor the home menu and get rid of all the white! I could not find these files anywhere and the only user to post such a mod never got back.
If you hadn't made this thread and shared your findings, I certainly wouldn't have gotten this far, certainly nowhere at all lol, so thanks to you!I love the work you're doing here, pushing things forward beyond what's already been found for Wii U themes. Happy to see others getting into Wii U theme making.
FTPIIU Everywhere as it has full access or the other one that escapes me at the moment!!! @Laf111 is the author iirc. How exactly do you permanently install the themes? You have to use FTPiiU and mess with the nand or something? Doesn't it only modify the SD Card?
Thanks bro, got it doneFTPIIU Everywhere as it has full access or the other one that escapes me at the moment!!! @Laf111 is the author iirc.
Either ftp or the Rosalina installer if its still active is your only option.
Either ftp or the Rosalina installer if its still active is your only option.
I certainly did!!! Completely forgot about that one, thanks for the update. You forget about Xpl0itU's theme-manager. It's better than Rosalina and offers integrity checks on the files, as well as allowing you to backup your current theme and restore it at any time. Not to mention it's just one app, rather than being separated into two like Rosalina is.
GitHub page has been linked already, but there's also a thread on it here.
