When you're playing games which don't use the D-pad much the Switch Pro Controller is the clear winner. When playing games on Retroarch I use a Pokken controller. This leaves me not knowing what to do about games like Celeste and Hollow Knight, which I assume, don't work with a Pokken controller.

Are there any good third party controllers which support gyro and HD-rumble? I don't like the 8Bit do controllers because of the analogue shoulder buttons which a total of 0 Switch games support. Apparently replacing the Switch Pro Controller D-pad with one from a Wii U Pro controller works great. Has anyone tried 3D printing a new D-pad? Has anyone tried surgically implanting the Nitro Deck into a Pro Controller case?

Mobapad ChiTu and ?M9HD use the same rumble modules as the Nintendo controllers. Also the Mobapad M6HD best joycon.
Gulikit KK3 Max (four back buttons : ) ) uses their own mysterious rumble motors that give a similar range of textures to official HD rumble. Has trigger stops that engage microswitches to give a digital effect, although recent firmware version have changed the behaviour so the button registers even before it hits the switch, instead looking for a very small analog threshold.
IIRC none of the third-party pro controllers' HD rumble is a crisp as the original.

Isn't the issue with the OG pro d-pad that the pivot isn't tall enough so you can press opposite directions? You can add e.g. electrical tape underneath the pivot to help with this. And if you get diagonal inputs too easily, you can mask off parts of the contacts on the board. Someone did this on an 8bitdo controller using punched-paper hole support rings.

While I haven't tried it myself but to my understanding these fixes are only partially effective and the D-pad is still inferior to other controllers'.
