I bought this switch lite legit and modchip about a year ago from a sketchy shop. It has worked fine and gave me no problems ever, I just remember there being written SX-something on the chip box. Fast forward to today and I am trying to install Linux using the guide given at --switchroot.org/noble & jammy-- but every time i do a partition, install it via UMS from my mac, and try to run it. It always gives me the error that The board was properly not initialized ( iykyk ) and thankfully it reboots in 10 seconds. I have tried updating my switch firmware, hekate versions, etc. But i have got nowhere near a successful linux boot.

I bit of digging in the already scarce resource pool, i heard a fix could be updating the modchip firmware. Currently I have been searching for a while but found no information on updating my SX chip. Is there a guide? Can somebody please give me a lead? I cannot go around breaking my modchip because they are hard to come by where I live, and as my switch is already banned ( its cool i dont like multiplayer games anyway ) that would be devastating.

olay i narrowed down the issue, i need to update my sdloader and it will work after that. Spacecraft-NX though has a way to do it but it requires dongle and to connect the modchip to pc. Has anyone update a modchip firmware on a switch lite? If yes, how did you do it?

As it is explained on github's spacecraft-nx :

For now you can't flash Spacecraft-NX without pluging in your modchip into your pc.

  • Plug in your USB dongle into the modchip.
  • Plug in your micro-usb cable into the dongle.
  • Plug in the other end of the cable to your Windows PC. (Linux support is work in progress. Feel free to send in a PR for OS X)
  • Download the latest release.
  • Unpack the archive
  • Double click the flash.bat DO NOT UNPLUG THE USB CABLE IN THE MIDDLE OF FLASHING OR YOU BRICK THE CHIP
  • Wait till it says !!!DONE!!!
  • Copy the payload into the root of the sdcard and rename it to payload.bin
  • On the first boot up your chip will enter into a training session, blinking yellow. This may take up to 30 minutes. (Recommended to plug in a charger)
  • After the initial training the chip will blink magenta and turn green upon successful boot up.

I upgraded my SX Lite chip this way, some years ago...you must use the USB ribbon sold with the modchip. You can buy it on aliexpress if you don't have it.
