Nintendo officially confirms Switch successor console, announces Nintendo Direct for next month

While rumors had been floating about rampantly as to the future plans of Nintendo, the President of the company, Shuntaro Furukawa, made a brief statement confirming that Nintendo is indeed working on a successor to the Nintendo Switch. Capping off Nintendo's quarterly financial report was an announcement that the unveiling of Nintendo's follow-up to the Switch would happen before the end of this fiscal year (March 2025). In the same message, Furukawa also announced that a Nintendo Direct is on the way sometime in June--though it will focus solely on latter-half 2024 Nintendo Switch titles, and will not feature any information regarding the successor system.

Current rumor reports state that a "Nintendo Switch 2" system was scheduled to be released around holiday 2024, though the hardware was delayed internally, to make sure that the upcoming system had as many quality launch titles as possible. Bloomberg has reported that Nintendo has been supplied with a notable amount of 8-inch Foxconn LCD screens, implying that the new Nintendo hardware may be very similar to the Nintendo Switch.

I don't know about that one, chief. V2, Lite, and OLED STILL rely on hardmods for homebrew.

The criticism is fair. Nintendo used to be on top of their game when it came to hardware.

Forget it. The switch still has no themes. I doubt that they will be implemented on the next console. Perhaps they think that themes can be exploited to execute unsigned code. Or so...i dunno. Bullshit statements and so on. But who knows.

and where exactly does it mention that? there have been zero mention of what it's going to have just stupid fake rumors as usual. so until there is actual proof of it having considerably stronger hardware maybe on par with the ps5 than i am going to continue to demean it successor and assume it's going to be the switch-U. :ha:

The Switch is okay for portable play, and fine with overclocking. It’s basically 720p60 in every game. The problem is when you dock it, and suddenly 720p looks low resolution on the 4k monitors every GBATemp member seems to have.

By everyone, I mean everyone in this thread. There doesn’t seem to be a single person here who actually is happy about the news.

I get it, you wanna play your games at 4k. If so, may I direct your attention to the Xbox X, or the PS5 Pro, or a gaming PC, all with just enough teraflops that your grubby, unoptimized games need. Would you be satisfied if Nintendo’s next console was on par with these systems? I highly doubt it.

What is a PS5 pro? PS4 pro plays in 4K... I think the PS5 does as well, but mine's been boxed up since I bought it a couple years ago.

My totally unrealistic dream for the upcoming direct is either a remake of the Oracle games or a new top down 2D Zelda.

Typical Nintendo trying too divert our attention away from their new console. I bet it will be the last thing they show at their direct in June. They always pulling this shit before thee unveil, hell it will probably be leaked in June any ways lol. Oh! its not going to be there and then bam! :D

I'd really like to see Twilight Princess HD released again. I don't get why it wasn't on the Switch and don't expect it now either.

Look at the post reviews when a news about it appears and compared with another companies like Sony and Microsoft... Nintendo still wins

M$ and Sony aren't doing great for gamers, but neither is Nintendo. In fact they've been kind of slacking.
