@sorunome I urge you to remove the report function, as I can imagine it will only be abused. If possible replace it with the ability for a user to simply block the people they find offensive or somehow objectionable - as these are subjective traits, arbitrary global bans based on the fragile sensibilities of some of the userbase comes across as somewhat harsh and unfair.

The only thing I would consider a reportable offence is if people started posting nude images (ie dick pics and the like). Otherwise I'm with you, a user block system. Given the people on Reddit who seem excited to ban people because someone made a Hitler Mii, which whilst in poor taste I don't particularly find offensive... I honestly think the report system will be abused beyond belief. And who polices the reports? Does sorunome have time to sift through all the reports and content of that person to see what the "abusive" content was?

I'm curious what happens when someone creates a Mii in favour of one particular group / entity that another finds offensive? Someone could create a Mii in support of Israel or Palestine and easily offend the other group and flood the server with report requests. How does something like that get resolved?

I have a Mii in my plaza that is called "a god", if I was ultra religious (I'm not), I might find that blasphemous and want it reported. On that note, imagine someone making a Mii on the prophet Muhammad, how well would that go? I wouldn't find it offensive, but I can imagine some people would.

Where does it stop?

I feel like you are blowing this way out of proportion. There is a a clear difference between someone naming their StreetPass Mii "God" and someone naming it "KillN----rs."

There's a famous anecdote about why bartenders kick Neo-Nazis out of bars. One shows up and orders a drink, and you still serve him because he's keeping to himself and you don't want to cause a scene. After a few nights, he brings one of his friends along, and then they bring their friends along, and before you know it you have a bar full of Neo-Nazis. Nobody else wants to come into the bar anymore due to all of the Neo-Nazis, and you can no longer kick them out because there are too damn many.

Moderation tools are important for keeping a community healthy. If put up with bad actors, you'll find fewer people want to use your service. Moderation tools can be abused, but not having them is often worse.

Good point. Nobody has the time to supervise these things. Or, alternatively, rely on an automatic review system, which is way out of the scope.

That said, some thresholds could be established, so several reports should be needed for a ban.

All I can do is parrot what others are saying about censorship. Give users a block tool and it becomes a self-rectifying issue. Then again, if people start getting banned, as previously mentioned, a friend of mine is eager to work on the project and retool it if things get too woke.

You might want to re-read your argument here. You certainly didn't do yourself any favours. Whilst I don't condone nor agree with Neo Nazis you can't discriminate against someone because of a belief. Swap your people around: You have a bar owner who is not religious and a Hindu comes in orders a drink, he's keeping to himself, no problems. A day or two later he comes in with another Hindu buddy, they have a few drinks and leave, a week goes by and you've got a bar full of Hindus.. Oh dear, you're a Hindu bar and no one else wants to visit.

Back to your Neo Nazi... You ask him to leave politely "Hey buddy, drinks on the house, but I need you to move on, we don't want you around here, it makes the other patrons uncomfortable." He finishes his drink and leaves quietly. Next thing you're getting a letter from him, he's a lawyer and you're being charged with discrimination.

I have nothing against moderation, and extreme content should be removed and people should be restricted in using public utilities if they pose a problem or a threat, but just because you find "KillNi**ers" offensive doesn't mean everyone will. Disgusting, yes, offensive to me, no. Would you be just as upset with a Mii called "AllWhitesAreEvil" ?

Netpass already has a config file, it'd be much easier to add the offensive 3DS MAC address to the config file (or even a separate blocklist file) and when downloading data from the Netpass server, this is checked against the block list, and any messages from a blocked 3DS is deleted before being merged into the CECD file. No need for server side checks putting less strain on the server and not putting soru in the potential political firing line.

You'll never be able to rationalize with these people. Since Alex Jones was deplatformed, the left has turned into the morality police. They are the new conservatives: zero free speech, zero differences allowed, only one way of thinking permitted so long as it follows the current zeitgeist.

I agree with everything you've said, but there is no way younger millennials or gen Z will grasp the concept of freedom of thought.

I had a hunch this was blown out of proportion as soon as I saw groomer flags on reddit. As expected, people aren't "upset" because they can't see Hitler or nazi stuff, they are understandably concerned those same people eager to censor/ban everything that hurts their feelings can weaponize it against some user just existing ing stupid jokes that don't harm anyone (like your "god" Mii for example) .

I really hope we are able to block people instead since that would be far safer for everyone.

I've personally received some Miis with messages such as "I like dicks" or "go eat a dick" but I'd rather have the option to block them personally.

Hey man, sorry it's hard for you. A close friend's son is not neuro-typical either and it gets him into a ton of trouble. The less we allow people to express themselves, the more censorship we permit, the harder it is for EVERYONE to have a voice. Hopefully the pendulum swings back to normalcy. We don't have to all love each other's opinions, but we should all be allowed to propagate them wheresoever we choose.

its not even a "woke" issue, its a serious issue, we all know the servers are located in germany and we know about their laws about nz propaganda
