-oh right the one who caused this mess was.. i was sitting on my bed with the laptop on its table for bed, my puppies.. they were playing rough i kept telling them to stop with a stern voice to shoving them aside... asked for help, and bam they hit the darn usb port for the hard drive and it caused this.. 4/4

Try using EaseUS recovery software.

My drive had this problem before totally dying. I recovered maybe 10 files off 500gb. I'd recommend looking into easus wizard or recuva. Chkdsk might also give you some insight as to what might be wrong.

"hey hit the darn usb port"
The USB is not a big issue. Should be either dead (not detected) or work. Sudden hit/drop or vibration can cause head crash.
If there is hardware damage any attempt to use the drive (just turning it on) can and WILL make things worse.

The answer to that is either restore the latest backup or in the case that should never happen ("I don't have a backup") pay big $$$$ for data recovery.

In case of software issue (corruption) avoid any write attempt, even file system repair. That can make things much harder or impossible.
Create a full image of the partition and try to extract data with recovery software from the copy only while not touching the original.

@Chary good freaking hell gosh.. that is nuts, as i mentioned before i have that program but it has the delete files only options.. i do know now that there is a recovery option thanks to sylver mentioning it. i will check the other programs you mentioned as well. however i do not know what is chkdsk is - will look into it. thank you and sorry you lost your data like that

@KleinesSinchen okay so one thing i did not mention dus to word limition on posting here is that the usb port to my 1tb hard drive is very sensative, it sadly disconnects quicker if you move the cable at all like touching it will disconnect it. so the workaround i found out was placing it in a good position on my laptops table or under my laptop table to protect it from doing so. 1/?

@KleinesSinchen howecer, because of this occuring now it just acts really bad wonky and it reads it, when originally it would not read it in a way that it wont display in my file explorer at all, i would have to be forced to change the drives letter for it to work and me to access my files each time i would connect it into my laptop whenever it occured which it happen randomly much so. 2/?

@KleinesSinchen because of this important factor i do believe that when the file i was trying to transfer got damaged inside of my hard drive - think it also messed with my hard drive being able to properly function at all. 3/?

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
    +1
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
