Hey guys,

"a friend " got a pre hacked PS4 with 1 controller and a cooling station from another guy next door. Its the model CUH-1004A and came with a 2TB SSHD. He paid 220€. Firmware is 9.00. Was that a good deal for him?

Since its an old model, there is no 5Ghz Wifi support. He also has currently no LAN-cable and installs his games via SSD. Is it normal that for example to install ~100GB it takes ~1h? Is it the console itself or the 2TB SSHD that makes it so slow, or is it just normal when installing a game? (The SSD would support 500MB/s reading and is connected via USB 3.1. So this can be excluded)

Besides that the PS4 seems fine. But i should mention that it got open, since the warranty sign got broken. Seller pretended to not even know it got open before.
Can you play online or how to check if the console is banned? He is not much interested in playing online, but curious of course and didnt research yet.

Thanks guys

Can't play online. There's no way to know if the console is banned; account--sign to the official Playstation website. It won't let you. If he gave you his account, the system may be banned if the account is. Sony bans both. As for an hour, maybe. It's hard to say as the usb port would bottleneck the speed. That does sound about right though.

Yes

That is a normal install time for the console. An SSHD, because of it's hybrid nature, will be faster than the original drive, but the throughput of the system itself is a bottleneck such that you wouldn't get much performance increase even with an SSD.

No, you cannot play online. In order to play online, you would need to update to the latest firmware. There are no publicly available exploits on the latest firmware and you would no longer have a hackable console (read no backups or homebrew), until such a time that new exploits are released (not guaranteed to happen). Consider your console permanently offline.
Was that a good deal for him?
Yes

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.

Free release can have loopholes where they still make money through ads
