With Mario Kart 8 returning online, a friend of mine asked me to update the game for them since they weren't able to do it themselves. Looking into it more, it seems like they used ufdiine to prevent system updates in the past, but with their sd card slot now broken, they're unable to update both the game and their console. Is there any sort of workaround for this (similar to dumpling) or is my friend totally screwed?
Turns out it's fixable after all. Since haxchi and the homebrew channel were left on the system, I was able to use these toad the homebrew launcher. From there I used wiiload to send ufdiine to the console and it allowed me to recreate the update folder. Hopefully this will help someone in the future.
