When I was a kid, probably 1996/97, mom'n'dad gave me this...
... but just the controller and one 999-in-1 cartridge.
Can't remember the year this happened, as the famiclone was literally shaped like an N64 controller (and the N64 was the hottest thing when this happened), and you had to put the cartridge on the back, as if you were placing the rumble pack on the real thing.
I unlocked this memory because I saw a YouTube video about one of these.
Mine was yellow... and I remember playing Popeye and Magic Jewelry on the thing non-stop.
The thing broke couple months later. Can't remember what happened, it just stopped working.
Dad saved money for months in order to get it fixed with a guy that was into electronics.
This guy apparently was my dad's friend... (dad is the exact opposite of me, so he literally has friends all over the place... it's quite incredible)
Anyway...
This guy was supposed to get it fixed... so we took my controller famiclone there and left it for repairs.
Since the guy was my dad's friend, he said that once he'd fixed it, we'd pay the service.
A week later, we went to see if my controller was already fixed, and it wasn't. Literally can't remember what this guy said he was having problems with.
We went again some days later, and suddenly, this guy had a cabinet, with a CRT, and don't know why this fucker thought it would be a good idea to make the cabinet with clear plastic, so anyone could see the internals.
Exactly in the middle, I saw my controller, literally plugged in to the CRT, and some kids were playing my games.
We confronted the guy, and I can't remember what he said... but I never got back my controller.
I can recall him saying: "No, this controller isn't your kid's, this one is mine"... but nothing more.
Dad never spoke to this guy again, and we never visited his shop any longer after that.
Couple weeks ago I went for groceries, and I passed by this guy's shop... he's still alive and he's still repairing electronics.
