Hi, i am very new to this scene and I have a lot of questions unanswered, there seems to be a lot of miss information and I wanted to see if I can get a lot of it cleared up. I have done A LOT of research prior to even downloading anything and alot of guides (mostly youtube guides) are outdated and dont seem to work, but after a couple of days and being rather exhausted and thinking if it was worth the time I pressed forward and got my switch with HEKATE with a couple days of research, but somethings I cannot seem to even find a middle ground to an answer to. I am comfortable with a lot of the keywords like payload, cfw, ofw, stock, sys, etc,. but not sure exactly their full uses
  • tl:dr can i still go online and download my legally purchased games on the eshop?
  • prior to modding my switch i have removed all networks and went into airplane mode on my switch.
  • i HAVE NOT loaded sysCFW or Stock sysMMC at all
  • i have only loaded emuCFW only for the sole purpose of lockpicking, DBI, nxdumptool, fuse and 90dns.
my question: ive read form post saying it is ok to connect to stocksysMMC to access and download eshop games, on the other hand ive read people say DO NOT access eshop using stocksysMMC and rather its better to just power off, then power on without booting RCM.

If you have a modded console on SysCFW, no. You cannot use online services since Nintendo can permanently ban your system. I highly recommend having an emuNAND for your homebrew and pirated games, and sysNAND (not modded) for your legal games and for playing online.

It's always safest to be on OFW when accessing the e-shop. Stock=1 *should* still safe, because no sysmodules or patches are loaded, but not many people would put themselves on the line by telling you that.

sys CFW, is a huge danger zone. Technically it is safe as long as you NEVER install an NSP, and NEVER run game mods or cheats online. But people like to play with things on emummc... and modules and cheats don't discriminate between emummc and sys. You can inadvertently go online in sys cfw with some sort of sysmodule that gets detected, or even a cheat for a game that you happen to play on emummc as well (something like a 60fps cheat on an online team fps can be detected, among other things). With that said, you can setup your dnsmitm to be active ONLY in emummc, so that you can access the eshop in sys even while in cfw mode... and you'd be safe, as long as all of the above remain true (no mods, cheats, installed nsp, sysmodules, etc,). SciresM has used CFW on sys since the very beginning (and before, considering he created Atmosphere in the first place), and his console has never been banned.

It's just simply not a good idea. My original V1 switch was not banned for years... then one day after a firmware upgrade, I lost track of where I was and what I was doing, and opened up the tinfoil installer while in sys. That console is now banned because of that. If you use OFW only, you cannot make a mistake. The only thing you should ever do with CFW in sys, is backup game saves with jksv or whatever, and dump games/updates/dlc to install in your emummc. Running an NRO homebrew while in sys cfw will not get you banned (unless it's something like tinfoil, that installs itself to the home screen, or a forwarder for homebrew).

thanks for the insight! I havent used any pirated games or mods on my switch, and ive only dumped games using emuCFW.

i only used fusee and lockpick rcm in my bootloader and these are all my nro files .
technically I should be good to boot OFW without RCM and be just fine, right?

Usually when such a big title leaks the Temp will be the first to report about it (going off of historical reports here, Pokemon SV being the latest one I can recall seeing pop up here)

I want a 120hz 4k tv but crazy how more expensive the 120hz over the 60hz are. Or even more crazy is the price of 8k's.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
No real point since movies are 30fps
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Not a big movie buff, more of a gamer tbh. And Series X is 120hz 8k ready, but yea only 120hz 4k games out right now, but thinking of in the future.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Mostly why you never see TV manufacturers going post 60hz

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I got my Dad a firestick for Xmas and showed him those 3rd party sites on Kodi, he loves it, all he watches anymore. He said he has got 3 letters from AT&T already about pirating, but he says f them, let them shut my internet off (He wants out of his AT&T contract anyways)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
That's where stremio comes to play never got a letter about it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just use a VPN, even give him my login and password so can use it also, and he refuses, he's funny.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I had to find and get him an old style flip phone even without text, cause thats what he wanted. No text, no internet, only phone calls. Old, old school.
