Season 6 of Rick and Morty is resuming and Mondo is shipping the perfect companion to accompany your watch sessions: action figures based on the series! This is the second set that the company has released, with the $150 Mondo exclusive version coming with the following items:
- Big Arm Morty
- Bloody Fist
- Duck Hand
- Happy Morty Head
- Angry Morty Head
- C Grip Morty Arm
- Meeseeks (Happy)
- Meeseeks (Distressed)
- Mr. PoopyButtHole
- Extrapolator Gun
- Isotope
- Meeseeks Box
Additional details about the figures can be found below:
Heights
- Morty - 8.5 in
- Meeseeks - 11.5 in
- Mr. PoopyButtHole - 6.25 in
Weights
- Morty - 6.65 oz
- Meeseeks - 4.25 oz
- Mr. PoopyButtHole - 1.20 oz
Even before taking out the items from the box, it is evident that much thought has been paid in designing the overall package as the Rick And Morty influences start from the box itself. Adorning the front, back and inner flap are arts featuring Rick and Morty’s titular protagonists. While original, these graphics could easily have been excerpted from one of the series’ episodes of wacky interdimensional adventures. It’s a real treat to fans even before opening the box to get a hand on the contents.
Regarding the figures themselves, they are of high quality. Made of PVC and ABS, they each bear details and colour palette that are faithful to the series, which really give the impression that the figures just popped out of the screen. Big Arm Morty and his bloody fist looks like he emerged from subsequent face-offs Blood Dome and is ready for more. I immediately picture the waving Meeseeks calling out “I'm Mr. Meeseeks, look at me!”. And, cane in hand, Mr. PoopyButtHole is as jovial as ever.
The accessories are also welcome inclusions that add to the figures’ set up. There’s the Extrapolator Gun that gave Morty’s arm a physical boost, Meeseeks Box to call for more Mr. Meeseeks and swappable body parts. The latter are also inter-compatible with Mondo’s first series of Rick and Morty collectibles.
As for the body parts, some are moveable, allowing you to pose the figures. While I prefer articulating action figures over static ones, the figures in this set only support minimal movements. You can move Morty’s hands, arms and head, Mr Meeseeks’ arms and legs and only more the arms of Mr Poopybutthole. While these enable some measure of freedom to pose the figures to your liking, they ultimately feel limited and might as well have been static figures.
This is also because there are no figure stands/base included in the package and having each item hold still is almost impossible. I could only get the Mr Meeseeks to stand without any support while Morty and Mr Poopybutthole definitely need one. Having stands would have remedied this issue which is handy to not only help in keeping the figures’ pose but also to prevent damage when they stumble due to their lack of balance. Thankfully, the Morty and Mr Poopybutthole figures do have holes to fit in figure bases but you’ll need to buy those separately while having them included in the package would be handy, if not expected.
While $150 is not cheap, it is not that expensive for an officially-licensed set with a number of figures and accessories. The box art also adds to the overall presentation and can easily be used as display material. Fans of Rick and Morty will definitely find something to like about Mondo’s second series of collectible figures but bear in mind that you'll need extra accessories/stands for most if you wish to display them out of the box.
Verdict
- Quality of figures
- Authentic look of figures
- Unique box arts
- Minimal articulation
- No figure stand
