Leia recently introduced its Lume Pad 2 tablet which delivers impressive glasses-free 3D effects, akin to a holographic display. While Leia offers the $49 Lume Cover to protect the screen and double as a stand, you might be interested in added protection for the tablet. This is where the WaterField Designs comes in.

The company is known for its quality accessories for the Nintendo Switch, ROG Ally and MacBook Pro, and has brought its expert craftsmanship for Lume Pad 2 users with the Magnetic Sleeve for Leia Lume Pad 2. You can browse it on the official WaterField Designs store before diving into this review.

WaterField Designs’ Magnetic Sleeve for Leia Lume Pad 2 retails for $89 on the official store, and comes in either brown, black, blue or white canvas. The latter model is under review and it is quite unique-looking as a tablet sleeve as well as for WaterField products.

Some of the material details of the accessory can be found below:

  • 15 oz. waxed canvas
  • 4mm dense neoprene
  • Ballistic nylon
  • Premium, full-grain leather accent

When placing your order, you can also choose to add D-rings for an extra $5 to which you can hook a strap. WaterField Designs also offers such straps for the sleeve at an extra cost but this will add to the overall price. Instead, I wish they were included in the sleeve by default and removed if needed by the user.

That said, for the asking price, you’ll be getting a sleeve that boasts WaterField Designs’ premium craftsmanship and aesthetics. The waxed canvas exterior is skillfully sewn, ensuring the sleeve’s durability and elegance. Adding a touch of classiness is the full-grain leather grip at the bottom which also helps the user to safely hold and open/close the sleeve.

I was instantly fond of the magnetic access which is easy to open while securing the tablet while closed. The magnets are also neatly concealed within the seams of the body, further adding to the minimalist elegance of the design.

The WaterField Designs Magnetic Sleeve for Leia Lume Pad 2 perfectly fits the Leia Lume Pad 2, whether it has the Leia Cover on or not. So if you haven’t purchased the Leia Cover, this Magnetic Sleeve can easily be a replacement. The 4mm dense neoprene lining also provides added padding and protection against bumps.

On the outside, the sleeve features a wide pocket that can easily store smaller accessories. These can be cables, earphones, a notebook, a pen or even your phone. This enables the WaterField Designs Magnetic Sleeve for Leia Lume Pad 2 to double as a small bag, especially if it is fitted with a shoulder strap; making it more versatile.

However, using it as a bag that you will carry around won’t be appropriate in rainy conditions as the sleeve’s body isn’t waterproof. In addition, the magnetic access leaves some small openings on either side where rain can trickle in. In rainy conditions, you can instead fit the sleeve into a waterproof backpack, so that you can safely bring your Lume Pad 2 tablet during your commute.

While having water protection and an included shoulder strap would make the WaterField Designs Magnetic Sleeve for Leia Lume Pad 2 more compelling, it is a recommended accessory for the tablet if you are looking for added protection and a well-made product.

And even if you don’t own a Lume Pad, WaterField Designs has a range of options for devices such as MacBooks and iPads, so do give then a look!
