GitLab has taken down the Suyu Nintendo Switch emulator

Emulator takedowns continue. Not long after its first release, Suyu emulator has been removed from GitLab via a DMCA takedown. Suyu was a Nintendo Switch emulator forked from Yuzu emulator, which was the high-profile subject of a takedown by Nintendo last month. GitLab deleted Suyu's repository, stating that they'd received a takedown notice for the project. The tongue-in-cheek named emulator still has an official website up, though the Discord is not allowing new members, and the GitLab download page is gone. However, it seems a self-hosted download page is still available.

The suyu repository is still up.
Don't know about the Discord tho, I don't usually hang in emu servers.

From a quick glance on their repository, they purposefully removed the Discord server link and changed it to a private chat for suyu.
Most likely this is the best course of action so "you-know-who" doesn't enter uninvited.
Imagine still using Discord for ANYTHING that can be taken down....

BUHA EMULATIonaTin Isza Legaaal!

Yeah... not according to the DMCA but no one wants to find out if the US Court system agrees.

It is legal, but Nintendo using the DMCA to bully and harass developers and fan project doesn't make it illegal.
People should stop depending on US stuff so often, it's only US-based apps/services that tend to have these kind of results.

Correct! Just use a service from like Panama and it should be safe.

They also need to majorly rework suyu's source code since alot of it relies off of an sdk that tropic haze (devs of yuzu) illegally used, I suggest that (in basic terms) they swap out sdk-infused code with ryujinx's

VR had the chance to integrate with existing games and tech but VR companies said "NO, I WANT MY SHIT TO BE STANDALONE AND MY GAMES EXCLUSIVE TO FACEBOOK"

Back when Oculus Rift was still starting out and being demoed around, they modded existing games to use it as a 360° immersive screen thing and that was AMAZING.

The tech isn't there for affordable power enough VR headsets at a good market value yet sadly, oculus had a good idea but didn't have enough funds for marketing iirc

The tech to have quality VR goggles at an affordable price is here, but every set has to have 4 additional controllers and be standalone.

These are the same type of gamers that spend $2,000 on a GPU when a $600 GPU gives nearly the same outcome which is what the market looks at for them to do spend more on unneeded bs
