I have a Western Digital 2tb but my ps3 says that isnt a compatible one. I read that i have to reduce that to 1.5 tb with a program or something. Is there a way to do that with an adapter for SATA hdd via USB?
Edit: solved it. I found a thread in Reddit that explains how to do that and i tried for myself and works!

Is possible to use an internal HDD with 2tb then? I read that maximum capacity that is compatible with ps3 is 1.5 tb
man... so it is impossible
So, the guide goes something like this:

1. You need to download the Seatools Bootable image from the Seagate offsite.
2. Upload image to flash drive
3. Boot from a flash drive on a computer, connect HDD 2.5" 2-3TB via USB
4. Select Advanced mode by pressing F8.
5. Press Advanced again, select "Set LBA", then F8 to continue.
6. Set LBA value to 3221225471 (maximum LBA value supported by PS3)
If there is at least 1 more, then everything is gone.
7. Install HDD 2.5" 2-3TB in PS3, format.
At the end of the process, PS3 will show a capacity of 1366GB free / 1536GB total (part of the disk space is reserved for the needs of PS3).

Just saw this, can this really be right?
I will still have to so the thing with making it 1.5tb right??

This is probably a stupid question, but i was thinking, these folks making CFW and stuff, they can't make something that make the ps3 accept storage bigger than 1.5tb?
Is that completely impossible?

Will this also work with an intel ssd?
Just want to make sure because the tool is a seagate thing

Will this only work with seagate or can i use this for an intel ssd too?

I think its straight up a PS3 filesystem limitation, so in theory it could be possible but it'd be a mess to implement. Essentially anything over 1TB breaks the filesystem check function, so it'll brick if it needs to check itself for whatever reason somewhere above 1034GB. The formatting function breaks somewhere around 1649GB, but by that point the filesystem is already unstable. Im not an expert on the PS3 much less a proper programmer other than making loops so inefficient that the switch screams at me, but unless they could get the PS3 to use NTFS or ExFAT without games or anything having issues, or the ps3 not having a seizure at seeing a harddrive not encrypted with its own keys, then it might never happen.

People can do as they wish, and different strokes for different folks, but for me there is really no good reason to have a large drive. It's only purpose really is so the owner can ogle at how many games they have installed, while most likely playing only one or two of them at a time before moving on to others. I used to fill the drives/sd cards of my modded systems with tons of games but found it just more convenient to play what I want, delete it when finished with the game, and then installing something else Vs having 100 games on it at a time. Anyway. Just an opinion that applies to myself, obviously not everyone feels the same. I wish you the best of luck and that you enjoy your gaming. PS3 is a great console and is nice to have since all PS3 games on PS5 are streaming. :)

My 4 grandchildren share one PS3 console between them, they all have different taste in games so that console has a fair few games stored on it. If a console is shared then having plenty of drive space is essential.

I recently bought a 2tb Seagate hdd and installed it into PS3, you will be able to use only 1.5tb of that drive though. After partition and install, you still only get 1.39tb. So really you don't gain as much as you think, and the troubles and cost are really not worth it. I suggest to simply buy a External hdd. ModMan and WebMan both read from external drives. Good luck!
