Hi everyone! A friend of mine has a Switch with a problematic SD card reader. He changed the reader, but it was still giving the same issues, so he gave it to me and I opened it up. I noticed that the molex was missing some pins, so I tried to use some jumper wires. I did that, but the SD card still isn't being recognized nor by Horizon and by Hekate. I tried to make the wires the shortest possible and I checked the connections with a multimeter: they are connected and there are no shorts. Also some pads may be look burnt in the pictures, but they're not, there's just some (no clean) flux next to them. I already tried to clean it but it didn't give me any different results.
TL;DR I did the soldering but it still doesn't work, even if the multimeter says there is connection. The reader is third party but new. What could be the issue? I really want to fix this. Thank you!

Note: I suspect the issue may be the ground connection since the SD card isn't even recognized in 1 bit mode by Hekate, but I tried different wires and nothing happened. I think the connection to the reader ground is good, the multimeter says there is connection between the shield of the reader and a random ground pad on the switch mobo, so I really am confused about this

Why not just replace the entire 16-pin FPC?

I've had to had this done 3 (three!) times. Fuck that cable shit. The little pin FPC only cost me like $3
I don't have a heat gun unfortunately :( It should have been a cheap fix. I guess I'll try redoing all the soldering and see what happens, I don't have any clues

Try using a different ground source to test like one of the screws of the console. Also that fpc connector is tricky, some pins may appear in good condition and have a decent connection to the external module but some might be bent or broken but just haven't dropped from the plastic yet.

Also look for any solder blob in the rest of the area where you soldered, i had this issue that everything looked fine after changing the fpc but a tiny blob of solder was preventing the console from recognizing the micro sd.

If you're only missing pins do it like this guy have a violin playing in the background and start grinding

Sorry for the very late reply, it looks doable. Where do you think he took the other pins? I would try that option, but I don't know where to source them

lmao, you have a new socket but just taking out the pins instead of replacing entire new one?
That makes me feel like someone patch a tire from taking out one piece from a new same spec tire as donor.

Not worth replacing the socket if you're missing a pin or two but nobody said its going to be easy.

I don't see the buzz about a square screen personally. I think there will be a review on the site within a few weeks though if you are interested.

I've put down the money on the Odin 2 Mini since I just love that Vita form factor. Loved the power of the Odin 2 but the size always put me off, this one seems exactly what I've been wanting.
