Just a thought, but Since Yuzu emulator can apparently work with Android (it's code was ripped off and used by a project described here) and since Yuzu emulator supports a replacement for online services using it's Raptor Network, and since Android is an open source OS which can be installed onto a Nintendo Switch without violating any copyright laws, what are the odds that we would ever see an android-based CFW running RetroArch alongside Yuzu with native support for game cart and use of an alternative to Nintendo Online services while retaining local play with official Nintendo Switch consoles? Perhaps expanding the online services to allow Retroarch games to play online? It could even have Sony remote play put in to play consoles remotely and/or various cloud gaming services. An out of the box all-in-one OS that a user could just load up without touching the official firmware.

Such a project would be totally legal (at least in the US) as it was previously established in multiple court cases that it's legal to compete with a company on it's own console and, more importantly, would allow for a superior gaming experience with superior online play capabilities. And, as an added benefit, Yuzu supports mounting .XCI files which is ALSO legal for an emulator to do as was established in Sony vs Connectix, meaning that if SXOS doesn't get further updates people wouldn't be stuck with installing XCI files. It would also be superior to Atmosphere, since Atmosphere of course can't play online, but an emulator can since it's not using Nintendo servers.

To be clear, I'm not talking about simply installing an Android build onto the Switch and then installing various apps onto it. I'm talking about an Android build specifically optimized to run such apps, pre-loaded and pre-configured to work out of the box, with an easy built-in system for updating those apps and an App store that would function like a Homebrew Browser allowing people to publish and run their own programs as easily as playing game carts they buy in a store. It could be optimized with a standard Switch user interface, but allowing the use of Android features like bluetooth pairing and such. Basically, the best of all worlds.

Any thoughts? How feasible would such a thing be?

I know the pricing of electronics nowadays isn't "how much it actually costs" but "how much we can get away with", but putting up a poll is just cynical.

Nah I'm getting value creep again. I look at a $50 console "but for just a few more dollars you could get XYZ" and I end up considering the Steam Deck.
