Since a few weeks I've been trying a VPN for more or less all of my internet usage, including GBAtemp. I'll have to integrate that into Pi Hole installation at a later point for extended blocking features as the DNS blocks of the VPN aren't on the same level. Well uBlock and NoScript do the rest for now.
Pleasant result is that no big problems showed up. Occasionally a Captcha, but that's all.
With freedom (especially freedom of speech) melting away like snow in the summer sun this step was overdue. I've already increased the strength of local encryption and extended my backup system to encrypted online storage.
Currently I'm considering trying and maybe switching to Tails and/or QubesOS in the near future and getting a Google Pixel phone, since those are the only ones supported by GrapheneOS.
After reading some days, this seems to be a (or even the only) trustworthy basis for actually using a smartphone. Quite some irony that a Google device is the best choice for not having to deal with Google. I would not give them any money though; only considering buying used -- maybe when the Pixel 9 is released. Right now of one of these costs more than double than all of my test Android devices combined.

I just do not want to be an easy target and live cautious in this regard for years. I'm using TOR for certain innocent looking searches do not signing up at big companies and some more precautions I'll not share here -- to keep my real identity disconnected from most online stuff.
