the sound of reel-to-reel tape stopping and starting is strangely nice as usual. i don't need more tape recorders but i kinda want to try doing a cheap, weird 90s setup, something like a 4-track TEAC A-3440 + a stereo DAT recorder for bouncing or just 2 extra tracks. someone probably used a similar setup in the past, and nobody seems to really use DAT anymore lol (hopefully that means i can find someone getting rid of a DAT machine for little money)
anyway back to the point of the audio clip… i kinda wish that more tape recorders would let you monitor the playback head when you start and stop, so you can actually hear that effect, but that's probably a bit more friction than you'd want in the tape path.
DAWs don't do this either, which i guess makes sense but it would be nice, it's just a fun little sound to have if you're starting from a point on the tape that goes right into a song's chorus or something.
