Bethesda might have released a new sci-fi game but it’s not a new entry to the Fallout series. This doesn’t mean that you can’t put yourself in the Fallout mood; and what better way to do so with some Fallout-themed food and beverages? Insight Editions’ Fallout: The Vault Dweller's Official Cookbook is the perfect companion to put you in that mood!

The cookbook alone retails for $24 on Amazon while the gift set, which is under review, goes for $45. The latter comes in a box that features the cookbook as well as an adjustable apron. The latter is a welcome addition, with a design that looks like an official Vault-Tec suit. It’s well suited for a gift for the Fallout fan in your life, although the gift set costs almost double of what the cookbook alone costs.

As with other Insight Editions cookbooks, Fallout: The Vault Dweller's Official Cookbook is a quality item. The book itself is hardcover, adorning Fallout colour palette and font as well as Vault Boy icons. The pages are all coloured, laminated and sturdily bound.

Entries have all the required ingredients list and preparation steps. There’s also a handy info box that quickly informs you of the difficulty, prep time and servings. Having coloured images of each entry helps provide an idea of what the final dish will look like and can help you decide if you fancy trying to replicate it.

Victoria Rosenthal, this cookbook’s author, also supplements each of the 70+ recipes with an introduction (and scribbled notes) that pack that distinctive Fallout humour. Of course, the recipes themselves are inspired by the Fallout series’ consumables. You’ll find recipes for Brahmin and Vegetable Roast Soup, stimpak and, of course, Nuka Cola. However, some entries feel like generic, rebranded ones.

But with the variety of starters, main course, drinks and desserts featured here, you’ll surely find (or discover!) something for your taste. There are also suggestions for replacements based on any dietary restrictions which is a welcome feature. I’d really recommend the gift set as the apron adds an adequate Fallout-esque touch but it is almost twice as much as the book alone.

Overall

Fallout: The Vault Dweller's Official Cookbook literally brings a slice of the Fallout universe to life. Vault-Tec approved!
Has the reviewer tried to make anything from the cookbook? This is is not the first time I've seen a cookbook review on here that commented on the pretty pictures but did not bother making anything

Can you please at least make something from the next cookbook you review, because what if all the recipes are disgusting lol

I really don't get this licenced cookbook craze. It's just a lazy way to milk franchises and fans. I tried a handful of these and the recipies are always super generic (and almost always have nothing to do with the licence). These are basically reskinned noob-cookbooks.

Does it come with an achievement if you 100% all the recipes? :P

... but more serious: this review without taste descriptions is like a video game review based on the cutscenes. No offense, but this is just describing the content. A bit weird to give a score on that alone.
