Review Approach:
This is my first review, hope you'll like it!
Today I am reviewing New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a game for the Wii. Duh.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the sequel to the 2006 DS game New Super Mario Bros. This game added many new features, the most notable of which is the co-op multiplayer, which is a hell of a good time in my opinion. This game, as always, has excellent level design, however some of the newer power-ups leave something to be desired. I would have wished for more tactile control on the propeller power up. Also the Penguin power up's sliding move is quite slippery and not as controllable as the regular slide move. I really enjoyed the other modes in the game, Coin Battle is among my favorite mini games in any game, not just this one. Oh, and for the post game, there is a secret World 9, and you can unlock levels by collecting all the Star Coins in a specific world. And if you get stuck on a certain level, Luigi will beat it for you! Awesome!
Verdict
What I Liked ...
- That Luigi "Super Guide" mode.
- The levels.
- The replayability.
- The minigames.
- Co-op mode.
What I Didn't Like ...
- Some power ups.
- The unnecessary motion controls.
10
Gameplay
This is a Mario game, so it must have extremely solid, well crafted gameplay. And it does.
9
Presentation
The presentation is extremely good, it even beats some of the newer side scrolling Mario games too.
8
Lasting Appeal
This is one of the games that people remember the Wii for, but not one of the ones they usually talk about when they discuss it.
