OP
So after playing around with RCM for a while and using my paperclip jig a few times, I've snapped pin 10 completely off. Switch still works fine, it just can't detect joycons being plugged in, but will still charge them.
Don't be a dipshit like me, be careful. And if you do break something, replacement rails are about $5 on aliexpress.

Honestly, paperclips are too stiff, I would use something with more flex. After all, it's only the same delicate pins in the Joy-Con that are touching the rail pins.

Could I have a link for the replacement rail? Thanks!

Thanks, ordered a few spare. I was searching for "nintendo switch" and had zero result, now I see they only put "nintend" probably for legal reason xd

I did the same thing but by bending pins on my spare joy-con my good one can’t be detected by the console and it’s now flat lol, but I have ordered a new rail for the console

To explain how it breaks off, pretend that pin 10 is like a thin metal rod.

Now, repeatedly bend back and forth on the metal rod a few times, and you will start to notice there is a wedge forming at where the joint is at. As you continue to bend back and forth, the wedge grows larger and larger until it snaps off.

I'm assuming if you use a jig and paperclip, it may be possible the jig is pushing pin 10 too much, causing it to flex beyond its max limit by Hooke's Law. Repeatedly inserting and removing the jig will cause this.

If you are going to trigger RCM, just buy joycon rails off eBay like I did and bridge those. They slide into place properly and don't run the risk of damaging your switch rail pins.

Do you have a link for the parts?

Personally, I think that the paper clip works well. You dont have to push hard at all.... You just need to bend the end at an angle so when you insert it that it just contacts without any force. My joycon gets detected 100% of the time no problem and I've put that paper clip in there at least 50 times now. You just need to be VERY gentle with it.
