Further information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch "Mig Switch" flashcart has been revealed

mig.png

A few days after the monumental reveal of a work-in-progress flashcart being made for the Nintendo Switch, more information has been made available. The previously unnamed flashcart is set to be called "Mig Switch", and the initial Twitter user that unveiled the Mig Switch's existence, After Time X, managed to get in contact with the team behind it all. According to them, they were offered a review unit of the Mig Switch, but turned it down, as the After Time X team fears legal repercussions from dealing with "backup loader" hardware.

Another interesting tidbit is that existing dumps of Switch games will NOT be compatible with the Mig Switch, and backups will need to be repacked to function with the flashcart. Games played with the flashcart can be played online, as well.

The Mig Switch currently has a website, where it is seeking distributors to work together with in order to sell initial limited quantities of the Mig Switch device, with the first units to be delivered sometime in January. The team claims that full availability is expected around March/April 2024. It'll come with the Mig Switch card, and the Mig Switch Dumper, with the latter of which allowing you to back up your games using NXdumpTool.

For the people who ordered from Modded hardware, we will be lucky if we get it in a month or two. Worse case scenario is that they will be like Limited Run Games and we would have to wait a full year. Or even worse, they will rip us off.

So after almost a month nobody took a shot at cracking this thing?
Rumor has it a new cart called "unlock switch" is in the works that appears to be a flat clone of the mig. Could just be a resale scam with new stickers on the carts for all we know now though.

This is what worries me about modded hardware. On the description under the mig switch is still says,
"This is a Pre-Order For the Mig Switch Flash Cart For the Nintendo Switch Limited quantities are available and order placed now should arrive in Late February."

Then at the bottom of the description it says,
"Est shipping is start of April if ordered today"

The pure incompetency of the description and that they're still taking orders and not stopping orders as sold out for now to keep up with the demand is what really gets me.

All of the distributors are like that it’s terrible it’s one of the reasons I’m trying to become one. It’s not that hard to
Communicate and run an e commerce

That being said don’t order from modded hardware afaik they havnt shipped out ANY of their orders

While .store shipped out a bunch already

I think they did overestimation of the demand and supply chain. If you look at the R4 card or Flash2advance back in the GBA days there were multiple webshops that sold it in my country. Now there is not one. Maybe because they are afraid of big N but who knows.
If you are taking orders but not delivering your business will soon be over. For now we only can wait to see if the UnlockSwitch is indeed a rebrand of the original, or if it is a new product.

I think most of us vastly overestimated the hype and after all these months under 1000 units are shipped while the bill of material is fully known and not rocket science. So either MIG Switch is a one or two man show or there is something going on.

I think it’s mostly down to rich kids with too much money thinking it would be easy to run a business

I feel like there’s enough different photos of sellers receiving stock on Reddit to show there’s product moving

But damn near every one of the sellers had some sort of drama or just can’t handle basic communication like updating their Shopify order status’ so there’s some basic order tracking

There’s people only knowing it’s been shipped because of USPS notifications

I believe order delivery has slowed down. I mean it's not a space shuttle, just a pcb with 2 chips and some capacitors on it.
Shipping a Stanley cup is more difficult as it has to be water tight, safe to use and obey all kinds of regulatory approvals.
Even the Unlock Switch is a piece of mystery in itself. Asking questions on the whereabouts of it are neglected.

the magic is not on the hardware is on the «software» (but on the FPGAs the hardware and software are grey areas.)

Well I did only knew UnlockSwitch, but getting my foot out of my mouth seems MigDIY also have a "button" now:

https://x.com/MIGDIY/status/1794317499179454517
What makes MIGDIY better than the other two, MIG Switch and UnlockSwitch? First time seeing this one and I've only seen a version with the button. Is that the only other feature it has or am I missing something?

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
