Hardware PSP 2000 batteries genuine or not?

Hi all,

I bought a number of second hand PSP 2000, some of them with batteries. I wonder if those are genuine original Sony make batteries or some China knock-offs.

Can someone tell me the answer and also what to look for to spot the fake/ after market China batteries?

Usually if it has a sticker with the sony logo on the back it's legit, and iirc there's a shiny green square sticker to show it's legit too.

I do not have any other information about the batteries than what is printed on the batteries... Or if you refer to the PSP model, slim 2000 and 3000...

Knockoffs don't print vasts amount of text on a battery.

Only other way I can think of would be to try dumping the serial number from the EEPROM, I would be surprised if a fake had a real serial number.

Not true, I had a knockoff once that had all the original text on the sticker, but what tipped me off the moment I received it was that the QR code was fake, it wasn't even square. Luckily I got a refund from the seller, but I think he continued selling them.

EEPROM of the battery? How to dump that?

I know a dump is made when creating pandora batteries, but there might also be software which allows you to such information from the console.

It's a good idea to find pictures of some confirmed original batteries and compare them to the ones you have.
That's what I did with the PSP-2000 battery I ordered a while back.
The text on the sticker is different depending on where it's produced, so keep that in mind as it might become a deciding factor in whether your batteries are legit or not. In my case the text printed on the sticker did not match where it was produced, as I couldn't find any pictures of original batteries produced in that location that had that text, all of the ones with the same text were produced elsewhere.
Also if the text is more blurry/less detailed than pictures you can find, then it's likely fake too.
But if they're well done clones they could look exactly like the originals and you'd never be able to tell. Usually the manufacturers are too lazy to make that kind of effort though.

That's very possible. I could never get the code to scan, so I don't know what it was supposed to be.

the other batteries refer to Canada regulations (with French and English texts)
and "for Taiwan customer only" with Chinese, English and Korean text.

To me they all look legit and marked for different region....

Is there any source still to order legit batteries? AFAIK there is no way to order legit batteries as Sony stopped producing those many years ago and no more stock available anywhere...

I have no idea, but if you find one, let me know. My PSP-2000 is without a battery after I ended up with a fake battery and had to return it, haven't bothered to buy another as it seems impossible to find a reputable seller. I can't even update it without a battery so it's still stuck on 5.00-M33.

Sure they do. In fact a lot of them copy SONY stickers one for one.

so far from daily life experience most of the ones made by china are knock-offs, unless its made by Japan... I have more trust with products from Japan than the latter... and this is something a guy from Asia knows about a lot..

however the official PSP battery was made in China and not in Japan... <_< unless there is a factory in Japan that still makes PSP batteries after sony retired them

I own 3 PSPs and all 3 had official batteries made in Japan (PSP 2000 x2 and PSP 3000 x1), all 3 US models. If I remember right all US ones (and maybe EU as well) has Japanese batteries.
