As long as you have a pc built within the last 10-15 years it should run it. The client itself doesn't really have any specific requirements other than a working windows/linux install. As for slowing down the pc, well it uses a bit of ram when it's active but if you have 16gb of ram or more it won't affect much of anything. You could also just close it when you're not using the client and that problem is solved.I wanna use steam but my dad says it slows down the pc. I also asked on reddit but the only answer i got was that "the games have more requirements"
I thought my signature had themPosting your system specs might get you a better answer.
some people have signatures disabled, you also don't seem to have a signature at all when i go into an incognito window without adblockI thought my signature had them
Jesus, that's horrendous. Haven't had that problem with the Linux client, thankfully. It doesn't even show up in my top RAM consumer list.it currently has a memory leak and uses up to 5gb ram (for me)

@OP: You can always run Steam in "small mode". This disables a lot of the JavaScript and CSS, and just presents you with a condensed version of your game list. Steam will also likely decimate your CPU when installing/updating games, but it does this to everybody. Just don't leave it running if you don't want it to cause random performance drops while others are using the PC. You could also look for some kind of minimal skin, but you'll need SFP to apply it, and a theme compatible with Steam's new engine.

they're already in collections and it just makes the entire client run worseI wonder if sorting them into collections would help any. I kinda doubt it, but my line of thinking is that since they can be collapsed, this would help alleviate how much is actually being displayed at one time. You can use Depressurizer to make it easier.

Ah, makes sense. I reckon that is more for it to process. I suppose you could spend the time to hide games you'd never play. Decluttering is probably the best way to go about it.they're already in collections and it just makes the entire client run worse
they don't have a "modern" pc, they have a celeron from like 2014, iircalthough on a modern PC it's probably miniscule in the impact on performance.

What does this thing even do there?! Loading 1200 entries, even with some data attached for each game, should never go that far in demands! What are they thinking? Is this service active by default while not using Steam? Or even worse: Is it also active while playing a memory hungry game – competing about resources with that service?it might be related to how many games i have, i have like ~1200 and it regularly goes up to 5gb usage, it uses less now that i have community content turned off but it's still nuts, makes me worry about the steam deck since it has half as much ram

Disable Steam and only load it on when needed. That should not slow down the PC. Just a little passive data on HDD/SSDI just disable steam on start up on Windows, uses zero resources other than space on the old Nvme drive, the games use far more space.
