  • Hey wavemotion, first off I just wanted to say thank you for your amazing work on emulating older consoles for the DSi and 3DS. But I have a question will you ever decide to make an emulator for the Sharp X68000?

Hello - and thanks for the kind words.

Right now, I'm at my limit of what I can support for the DSi emulation scene. I've got 7 emulators under my care - and just haven't got enough free time to work on another.

    7 emulators? Wow 😲.
Since you're a veteran of the 6502 (Or at least I think you are), I've been wondering...would you ever work on FrodoDS? The first version was...mildly functional at best, but it was revived recently and there's a GitHub page. I'm sure you'd be able to turn it into an amazing emulator like XEGS-DS :D

I never had a C64 and so have no nostalgia for it. To be honest I did try to compile a version of it last year and it was a struggle - never got it to build with modern libraries.

Ultimately I’m caretaking 7 emulators and am already feeling stretched a bit thin. Hopefully someone with a love for the C64 and some skills will appear.

I don't know if your thirst to polish ColecoDS even further will ever end (Not like I mind it, you've done and still doing a lot to make it an amazing emulator), but do you have any interest in tackling 3DS programming? Aside from also being an ARM handheld I've heard it's much more difficult to program for, but the extra resolution and better sound hardware might help a ton for 8-bit and 16-bit emulators alike

Hey Cris - right now the 3DS is not on my radar. I don't own one - and already have a nice "fleet" of DSi XLs to play with. The extra CPU power would certainly help in the 16-bit emulation department... though my focus remains on 8-bit glory which the DSi generally handles very well :)

Hey, just curious; do any of your emulators play Atari800 games?

So ColecoDS will now play MSX1 games (.msx and .cas), Memotech MTX games (.mtx and .cas) and Spectravideo SVI (SVI-318/328) (.cas) games.

Plus ADAM .ddp and .dsk games.

ColecoDS got an update that added compatibility for something, IIRC. What is that thing, and what format is it?

Not sure what you’re asking. My most recent check in was to add support for the Hanimex Pencil II computer. Only one game known to be dumped for it. I give more details in the ColecoDS thread here on gbatemp
Hey, how much of the code amongst your emulators are shared?
    wavemotion
    wavemotion
Unless you mean within the ColecoDS - in which case, the 7 emulators supported (Coleco, Adam, MSX, MTX, Sord-M5, SG-1000 and now Spectravision SVI) has a lot of shared code.

I meant duplicate code, my bad.
Just for future reference, what did you think I meant by shared code?
    wavemotion
    wavemotion
I thought you meant things like the high scores or configuration or CRC algorithms... those are all duplicated across all the emulators I work with. But I could do it Flubba-style and put those in a common github repository and just pull from it for all 6 emulators.

But I wasn't clever enough to do that at the time and I don't have the bandwidth to refactor the code now.

Hi there... at this time I'm feeling stretched a little thin across 5 homebrew projects I'm working on plus a sixth that I'm in contact with the author of ColecoDS. I don't feel I can take on another project at this time - but I do appreciate you thinking of me here. If things change, I'll contact you.

Biomutant looks cool tho, may have to try that
  • Quincy @ Quincy:
Usually when such a big title leaks the Temp will be the first to report about it (going off of historical reports here, Pokemon SV being the latest one I can recall seeing pop up here)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I still like how a freaking mp3 file hacks webos all that security defeated by text yet again
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
They have simulators for everything nowdays, cray cray. How about a sim that shows you playing the Switch.

I want a 120hz 4k tv but crazy how more expensive the 120hz over the 60hz are. Or even more crazy is the price of 8k's.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
No real point since movies are 30fps
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Not a big movie buff, more of a gamer tbh. And Series X is 120hz 8k ready, but yea only 120hz 4k games out right now, but thinking of in the future.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Mostly why you never see TV manufacturers going post 60hz
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I only watch tv when i goto bed, it puts me to sleep, and I have a nas drive filled w my fav shows so i can watch them in order, commercial free. I usually watch Married w Children, or South Park
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Stremio ruined my need for nas
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I stream from Nas to firestick, one on every tv, and use Kodi. I'm happy w it, plays everything. (I pirate/torrent shows/movies on pc, and put on nas)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Kodi repost are still pretty popular
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
What the hell is Kodi reposts? what do you mean, or "Wut?" -xdqwerty
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Google them basically web crawlers to movie sites
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
oh you mean the 3rd party apps on Kodi, yea i know what you mean, yea there are still a few cool ones, in fact watched the new planet of the apes movie other night w wifey thru one, was good pic surprisingly, not a cam
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Damn, only $2.06 and free shipping. Gotta cost more for them to ship than $2.06
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I got my Dad a firestick for Xmas and showed him those 3rd party sites on Kodi, he loves it, all he watches anymore. He said he has got 3 letters from AT&T already about pirating, but he says f them, let them shut my internet off (He wants out of his AT&T contract anyways)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
That's where stremio comes to play never got a letter about it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just use a VPN, even give him my login and password so can use it also, and he refuses, he's funny.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I had to find and get him an old style flip phone even without text, cause thats what he wanted. No text, no internet, only phone calls. Old, old school.
    K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2: @BigOnYa...
