Review Approach:

My evaluation approach will be intuitive and concise, rather than analytical and expository.
My primary purpose is to highlight, in its simplicity, the originality and creativity of this homebrew, and make it re-emerge from the oblivion into which it has fallen.
This Tetris clone, which initially gives the impression of being banal and faded, later turns out to be captivating and compelling; a real challenge for the player's attention and reflexes.

The game (originally titled Tetanus on Drugs) is an unofficial gba conversion of a 2000 PC title, and one that makes a great impression on the little nintendo.

While, as in the old, monochrome Tetris for gb, geometric blocks of various shapes fall from the top, the player has the task of fitting them together in the lower surface, thus eliminating the continuous lines.

But already from the first elimination, the playing field begins to oscillate, first slowly and then widely and rapidly, to the rhythm of the music; it tilts, swings, deforms, writhes; thus giving a hallucinogenic effect.
It approaches and moves away, it enlarges and then shrinks; and more effects add up and overlap, all this without the gaze being able to distract from the show. Until everything becomes too fast and exaggerated, and inevitably you lose attention and movement accuracy; and it's game over.

An interesting touch is also the image in spiral movement in the background, which, in the most excited moments, increases the confusion.

The only flaws I notice are the lack of alternative background music, and the pastel colors a little faded and not very varied. But played on DS Lite, with its higher color brilliance and brightness, they improve considerably.

Among all the puzzles and Tetris clones, official and unofficial, I must say that this is the title that I most often play in my spare time, for its immediacy and capacity for involvement.

My final vote is an 8, which would have been higher if it weren't for the lack of additional BGMS, and the overall faded colors.

Greetings to those who have followed my modest rants. They tell me I'm sick of video games; well this is a pleasant disease that I cannot, because I do not want, do without. And as I understand, I am in good and numerous company.

Verdict

What I Liked ...
  • Nice graphical effects
What I Didn't Like ...
  • Poor colors
  • No alternative bgms
8
out of 10

Overall

This is one of my favourite Tetris games on the GBA, though it is not a terribly strong competition. Would probably go for the DS effort but this is a solid entry for a GBA tetris.
